United States elections 2024: Donald Trump Wins

Tariffs

Trump has proposed a 10% tariff on all U.S. imports and 60% on Chinese-made products, which if enacted would affect the whole economy by pushing consumer prices higher.

The Tax Foundation, a non-partisan think tank, calculated Trump tariffs would hike taxes by $524 billion annually, shrink GDP by at least 0.8%, and cut employment by 684,000 full-time equivalent jobs potentially impacting retail workers, the largest private sector employer. He also suggested he might impose a 25% tariff on all imports from Mexico.

Trump’s tariff proposals could reduce American consumers’ spending power between $46 billion and $78 billion each year, according to a National Retail Federation study.

Apparel, toys, furniture, household appliances and footwear would be the most affected categories, the study said. Retailers would shift operations outside of China to countries including Bangladesh, India, and Vietnam.

Big-box stores like Walmart and Target would face higher supply chain costs, while supermarkets like Kroger, Albertsons, and Publix, which minimally source from China, could benefit. Shipping and transportation experts say sweeping tariffs could initially bolster their business before depressing trade.

Tariffs loom over tech as well. In recent weeks, Trump has also heavily criticized the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act that has sought to partially subsidize companies building factories in the United States. Instead, he said the country should impose tariffs on chips coming into the country, especially from Taiwan’s TSMC.

That isn't going to help them one bit

Shallow analysis.

Even with other voters "back", they would still probably have lost as Trump's victory is quite large.

In essence they need to get the "Progressives" and Muslims back to edge The Republicans again.

He continued: “The Democratic Party proved itself to be fundamentally undemocratic. It needs a complete reboot. The leadership should be thrown out and those responsible should apologize to the American people.”

They lost because inflation hurt the little guy far more than anybody else and they probably feel that Biden vote 4 years ago was their own demise since Trump didn't stick it to them so badly when he was in office.

It's a combination of factors, not just the inflation, job opportunities for example, but yes, the general theme is the dem lost touch with the little guy.

And when you lost the little guy as a democrat, then what exactly are you standing for.

They need a seriously deep thinking about their strategy and who and what issue should they focus on, and I will fire whoever have the whip (controlling party policy) if I am high ranking democrats because he/she got the priority all wrong.

Well, when it comes to understanding the natural world we should always trust the experts and university trained phds.

When it comes to real world socio-economic-political issues, never trust these "expert", "university professors" and Phd types. There is a simple reason behind it. All of these are usually sheltered from repercurssions. And you can never learn to fix your thinking when you are shielded from repurcurssions. This is os fundamental that it should be hung on the wall of every political party.

Unfortunately, democrats are not really street smart practioners but stupid university trained ideologues. There was NEVER a reason to let sleepy Joe run in the first place. There was never a reason to let him be president in the first place. Then replacing him with a woman of god knows what race.

It was never going to work out.

As many as who cannot find Pakistan on a map but still associate it with terrorism & rightly so.

You do realise that the guy who got elected today made Pakistan happy by exiting Afghanistan? India on the other hand was mourning that day.

You guys pretend that Trump is bad for Pakistan. Pakistanis on the other hand have an entirely different relation and experience with Trump.

I highly doubt Trump is going to be better for the Palestinian cause.

No problem. I rather have open enmity than someone pretending they are my friend. I know exactly what to expect from Trump on each and every issue. With the Democrats I only expect backstabbing.

There is general consensus among the entire world that all US leaders are in the back pocket of Zionists. Only a fool would expect anything on Palestine from Trump.

part of why Harris is on the ticket is because if not, they will need to hand back the 95 million they had raised before July, FEC rules, you can't use it on someone else, so if they don't use Harris, they start their campaign budget at $0. And with 3 months until election, you may as well throw in the towel.

As I said numerous time before the election, they really should have dropped Biden a long time ago. He won 2020 because we all hated Trump, and he himself said he was the transition president, Dems are going to blame a lot of things but as I said, again, numerous time before the election, that's self-inflicted. They really should replace Biden with another ticket after Nov 2022 mid-term, the issue with Biden started there as we were talking about the Red Wave is going to crash into the election back in 2022, but that didn't happen, maybe some false sense of security on the dem parts? I don't know, but they leave Biden in place. And when they panicked after the first debate, there are pretty much nothing they can do about it.

As I said to @Hamartia Antidote, the reason why Dem lost is because dem actually acted like GOP, California used to be die hard Republican territories in mid-90s and Texas was Blue, instead the democratic party should be for the people as they are supposed to be the left, what kind of left is it for people like George Clooney, Taylor Swift and Beyonce supposed to be? When they start pumping out these people, I know the Dem is going to be in trouble. Those are people you want to be, not who you are if you are the grass root little guy, those people probably don't ever do their laundry in their life, are they supposed to be what your constituent to identify with? they don't face the same problems that people work for a living facing. Yet, those people are what the "Left" these democrats goes with.

They need to redefine what is political left, otherwise they would have a hard time on the next election, unless GOP and Trump F it up real bad and we had another revenge president.

As for the part of Trump's speech that Russia appears to be welcoming, he emphasized that he will work to end wars around the world. "I'm not going to start wars, I'm going to stop wars," he stressed. "We had no wars, for four years we had no wars. Except we defeated ISIS," the next US president said.

Trump also on the campaign trail had blasted Ukraine's Zelensky as the world's greatest salesman, and indicated the era of massive handouts to Kiev at American taxpayers' expense will come to an end.

The biggest demographic were those who sat it out, because BOTH uni party options were absolute garbage. And now they’re left with the worst possible outcome. Brillant,

Reactions from world leaders have begun to pour in, congratulating Donald Trump on winning the presidency again.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was the first world leader to congratulate him.

“Dear Donald and Melania Trump, Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback!” Netanyahu posted on social media.

“Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his best wishes to Trump, saying,

“Heartiest congratulations my friend [Donald Trump] on your historic election victory. As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity.”
His post was accompanied by four images of himself and Trump during the latter’s last stint in the White House.

Well, this is the issue now isn't it.

There are about 260 million adult in the US, you have roughly 240 million eligible voter. This election we saw 135 million vote, the last one is ~160 million (66%) with 82% vote tallied, we have 135 mil, that's a little north of 50%.

People don't vote because they are disenfranchised, either thinking voting is pointless or they just couldn't bring themselves to support either one. This is going to hit badly for the dem, again, they depend on grass root movement to win, there ain't no grass root movement if people don't vote.
