US 2026 Midterm Elections Thread

No, it can either be through the Chain of Command within 3 years of the incident (or 5, I forgot which one) or through Congress referrial from the House Armed Services Committee if the action is over 3 or 5 years old. He can't award himself a Medal of Honor

He can award himself anything civilian, from the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the 2028 LA Olympics; it's quite easy actually, he just needs to ask ICE to deport all other competitors.......
I could imagine him creating a new Trump award, and give it himself and declaring it better than Medal of Honor or Nobel Peace Prize.

Well, that might have been harder to do now as GOP is poised to lose at least the House, Trump is going to need the house to start anything better than Nobel Peace Prize.........

If Republicans lose both house and senate, will anything change for good? and I mean like will there be more checks and balances over Trump, or he can just veto it and keep doing whatever he wants?

You are right, Trump when he first come down from the elavator he thought he would run for the presidential race with little to no hope to win, hence he just keep saying wildest things on TV, cartering to racist and Xenophobic tropes, 4chan conspiracy theories, for him it was just some fun time, i doubt he even thought that he will become the republican primary in 2016, and Hilary's primary doesn't help with the situation either and rest is history.

Trump is populatist maybe but he is definitely at this point become a cult leader, his supporters which are very vocal in various tv shows and street interviews gives very cult like vibes, you can ask 5 of his supporters regarding one issue and you will get 5 different justifications, everything he does is already justified even if it goes against the values these republican trying to build their politics on. From Releasing Epstien files to mocking Islam over the treatment of women, when Trump can go around call women names like Fat, Ugly, miss piggy and Grab them by the &ussy, he can mock disable people, veterns, deny his loss in 2020 election, claims fraud without a single shread of evidence but his supporters don't care, Trump to me is not just a bad leader its just the man has not a single decent bone in his body, he is just outright pathetic low class failed businessman with a potty mouth, hence he decided to run as republicans he knows that how dumb the avergae republican voter is, in his own words... he said i can shot a guy in the middle of street and his people will support him, he also said i love the poorly educated, which is very evident from his supporters, he also said that he can said the dumbest thing and yet his crown will cheer him and they even did (facepalm moment).

It is still a mystery to me that how come a Country like United states of Fcuking America, not one but twice elected this cheap, incoherent potty mouth indecent human being, it still boggles my mind to this day, i can expect such leadership in some 3rd world country but from America? Still unbelieveable.

Absolutely correct! When he ran the first time, virtually no one especially himself thought he would win.

So he basically said the craziest things on TV and got lots of Free earned media.

If the Democrats gain both houses of Congress, there will be major oversight. Oversight the Congress is supposed to use, but instead, they almost completely seeded their authority to Trump.

And let's be realistic here, a lot of people are not actually voting for what Democrats can do, but against Trump.
No miracles overnight.

I won't be surprised if at some point we find out that he ran for president only to give his dying empire and failed business endeavours some relevancy, that would be the biggest joke in the American political history.

Reason i ask this because i was watching a talk show, people were talking about as Trump can still veto things, and TBH i don't have high expectation from Democrats either when they have leaders like schumer and Hakeem jefferies, both are basically spineless leaders. So if the Democrats even after winning both houses still unable to stand against the Trump administration on prime issues, than it will be a big dud which will cost them dearly in 2028 Presidential election, but here is something i will say, " No matter how much of a stupid thing a Democrat will do, you will always find a Repulican who will out-do him/her "

He can veto, but then nothing will be done in the next 2 years, because the President can just veto any bill, but he can't make any, which means there are no policies at all in the next 2 years, either that or both sides had to compromise...

Technically, Congress can simply not pass any budget bill to fund the government, which means a government shutdown in the next 2 years is highly probable.

Well, the House can investigate, but they can't do anything until it past Senate with a supermajority, and there are no way the Dems can win a supermajority in the Senate to overcome Trump's veto.

Making it pointless, as we all know Trump is shit; we don't need an investigation to tell us so lol....

The only thing the Dems can do after winning the Senate (If they can, I still have doubts) is nomination confirmation.

That's on the federal level only tho, which is basically in charge of national direction like Defence or Foreign Policy. Most people don't have a problem with that; the problem people are having now and resisting the Trump admin is inflation, that mostly cannot be solve in Federal Level; that's a state-level issue. And when you have a winner in the federal midterm, usually the same side also wins the state.

The only major problem with Economic in Federal level is the tariff, which the SCOTUS already ruled that Trump's tariff is illegal; he can only use the temporary power, and after the hosue change hand, he probably can't even use that anymore if Congress grows a backbone...

So basically for next two years it will be a complete sh!t show, possibly Govt shut down again, no sight on ending war in Iran, Its safe to say that at this point Trump don't give a shish kebab about Republican party's future, he knows he can't run for 3rd term and he will be facing some lawsuits once out of the office, for which he will pardon himself. But i think the last 2 years he will just use it to fill his pockets and so his family.

Inflation and Gas price is usually the topic number 1 when people talk about election for past couple of weeks/months, even at work its a hot topic. What i notice at least from the friend circle i have here in Tampa that a lot of undecided voters are now leaning democrats, now if they do something after winning in mid-terms which can then be reflected in the presidential but its a big "IF".

What we need to do is fix the voters. Most of them are too damn stupid to tie their own shoes much less make an intelligent choice at the polls.

The left is accusing Trump of buying votes all while Crazy Bernie and America's favorite Latina bartender are doing the same.

Start voting the incumbents out. DON'T vote for the crazy elements of each party. And more importantly, start using your brains and stop relying on Twitter and other related news / sound bites.
This zombie style voting unfortunately is pretty much in every country that runs democratic style elections. Its part of the flaw of the system, its not going to change unfortunately.

You need a supermajority in the Senate for any motion to be binding. The House can raise any motion, but it would just be talk unless it can pass the Senate floor, and you need 60% to kill the filibuster. And the dem at most can get 54 senators.

The next 2 years is going to be what we called lame duck, as someone said it on TV a couple of hours ago, if the Dem took the house and/or senate, the only reason why congressmen and senator to go to Washington DC in the next 2 years is to get a free haircut.......
