US 2026 Midterm Elections Thread

From my experience living in the Deep South most of my life and surrounded by them through friends and family, I strongly feel like this is another North and South divide like the 1850s. There are strong racial currents but not geographically restricted: The White Americans, may have voted to against MAGA this time but they will raise their head again very soon: Against the 'Socialists', the 'Muslim Brotherhood' in America, against the 'criminal, moochers Latinos', against the 'welfare queen Black Americans'.

Our house is tense. Very tense! Wife fuming over the elections and yelling at me for voting Ms. Annie Andrews.
"America is 'screwed' with the 'Muslim Brotherhood' like Mamdani and El Sayyed. " and much more. Much more with expletives.
Wasn't this expected given the high cost of living? I think only the very die-hard would stay the course. The rest are probably looking for some sort of relief.

Oh Annie Andrews defeated Gay Lindsay Graham's sister in South Carolina?!

How come she didn't respect final election? still Republican MAGA snake?! High cost of living, gas, inflation, last American first, wars, etc?

IMO, in that regard the President was a fool. He should have let the Governor decide who best to fill that seat. Nancy Mace would have been a much better choice but Trump had it in for her over the Epstein files.

Exactly the point I was making in the Perspectives thread. Working in logistics, I looked at all that and the downstream impact.

When this thing kicked off, the spring planting season was starting. Many farmers felt it immediately. The fall harvest is underway and those same farmers, if they are still in business, are feeling it even more.

We're all seeing it not just at the pump but at the grocery store, Kohl's, you name it.

The "GDP is awesome!!! Massive growth!!! Stock markets at all-time highs!!! No other country compares!!" cheerleaders steadfastly refused to look at the big picture. And now? Some of them, not surprisingly, are casting blame.

So far this year, 221 trucking companies have filed for bankruptcy and are shutting down operations.

Trump was absolutely on the ballot.
You are right, and people some even on PDF has downplayed the impact of high gas prices for truckers, lets be real here that Truckers are the life line of the USA, just as much as the Farmers are, one is who produce our food and other is the responsible transport which takes the same food from point A to point B, and people who were downplaying truckers tears should see US map, i do that a lot when i look for my next vacation which is also had to cancel due to high gas prices, America big/huge or as Trump says Yuge. The distance between Point A to point B can be 1000-3000 or more miles, imagine driving that giant of a 18 wheeler who drink Disel like collage guy drink beer at spring break, that cost was killing the truckers, and i am not surprised as you mentioned that 221 Trucking companies filed for backruptcy, I am actually glad we haven't see any drastic actions like suicide when people's entire livelyhoods were gone.

Trump was indeed on the ballot and everything he said or promised to his people prior to his 2nd term he did the opposite, from Data centers, to no more wars, from cozy up to billionaires to America first. That high Gas price was the final nail in the coffin, for his already duindling voterbase.

The electorate was looking for anything. Yes, the high cost of living weighed heavily on their minds. I was stating such in the Perspectives thread when this kicked off back in late February.

You can cite all the damn Twitter posts you want to show things are great.

However, when you look at the overall big picture, a different story is painted.

You are our inside brown man in the deep south, when the guns are getting loaded, let me know so i can drive to Canada lol

You know the funny thing looking at this is that there are no centrists any longer. I think the last of those in the Republican Party was a man that Trump called a "loser" - John McCain. That chap had the guts to stay civil and did not even let his own supporters denigrate Obama. Don't see anyone like him any longer.

You then never saw the uncivil side of John McCain.

I have.

Haha.
But seriously speaking, wife was just saying 'We need to escape before $hit hits the fan' referring to the aftermath of this elections. She said Canada. I said Canada is full of immigrants. She said Oh! Right.
Then I told her that as long as the crap stays away a good distance from our area, I am okay. Like 'all politics is local', all living is also local. Let them sort it out in NY or Michigan or Oregon or Kentucky... just stay away from us.

I know it may sound like a selfish, self-absorbed way to live your life but I don't want to get too dragged into larger affairs.

Honestly jokes aside, I am not moving anywhere no matter how bad things are, they really have to deport me lol USA has everything that i want, good economy, all kinds of terrain to enjoy vacation, all cultures, languages, etc. like we say in Urdu, Ab yahan se kahan jayen? Even for retirement i have shortlisted few places in USA, but if shish kebab hits the fan, i might have to go to AZ for some self-defence training and learn some survival skills and overcome my fear of bugs if i wanna live in the woods lol

I like Canada but i have some panoti relatives in Canada, and Canada is just Aap janab version of America anyway lol

Also unrelated to election (i think) this morning or yesterday there was a guy entered a citi bank office, shot a killed a women, it could've turned ugly but he was taken out, the incident happen less than 10 mins from my office, and 15 mins from my apartment.

Perhaps I should have used the word "relative".
I'll accept that.

I still remember to this day when he was invited as a guest to one of the local talk shows on KNST in Tucson.

A woman had called in. A widow. Her husband MIA in Vietnam. She wanted to know what McCain was doing to look for those who were left behind including her husband.

He then spent the next 5 minutes berating her, that the war was over, and to get over it. He's gone.

It was at that moment I lost all respect I had for him. He continued to earn that loss of respect each and every election cycle after. It got so bad that even the very liberal Phoenix New Times wrote that McCain playing his war hero card was old and well-worn; that no one cared.

Now, 40 years after that incident, we now have another US Senator playing the well-worn "war hero" card.

Mark Kelly.

Haha.

Good plan.

I too just want to be left alone. If people insist, I have ways of handling most neighborhood disputes without attracting too much unwanted attention.
