Delays of about two hours have been affecting flights arriving into and departing from the San Diego International Airport on Friday afternoon, just as travel for the Labor Day weekend gets underway, according to the airport's website and the Federal Aviation Administration.

San Diegans looking skyward Friday afternoon were left wondering what exactly was happening above the city, as a strange, reflective blimp-like object appeared extraordinarily high overhead while, at nearly the same time, a drone and a separate weather balloon were detected near San Diego International Airport, prompting the Federal Aviation Administration to temporarily halt arrivals and departures and sending the region's air-travel system into chaos.
Despite the extraordinary timing, the events appear to have been separate. The object that generated widespread curiosity from North Park to inland San Diego County was flying at an altitude of roughly 54,000 feet and appears to be a sophisticated stratospheric airship operated by New Mexico-based aerospace company Sceye. Meanwhile, San Diego International Airport has now confirmed that airport personnel identified two other objects in the immediate vicinity of the airport Friday afternoon: one a drone and the other a weather balloon.
"At 2 p.m. today, a drone and a weather balloon were identified in the immediate vicinity of San Diego International Airport," an airport spokesperson told SanDiegoVille in a statement Friday. "In response, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) temporarily paused arrivals and departures."
The FAA reported an all-clear as of 4:30 p.m., according to the airport, and all airport operations subsequently resumed. Airport officials said Airfield Operations continues monitoring the situation in coordination with the FAA, Transportation Security Administration and local law enforcement, while TSA law enforcement is investigating the drone activity.
The airport's confirmation provides the clearest explanation yet for a chaotic afternoon that saw departing aircraft sitting on the ground, arriving flights placed into holding patterns and some San Diego-bound aircraft diverted elsewhere. It also adds another unusual wrinkle to an already bizarre afternoon in San Diego's skies: one of the objects near the airport was itself a weather balloon, separate from the enormous high-altitude craft being spotted and tracked far above the region.
Flight-tracking screenshots shared Friday identified that much higher craft as HBAL124, registration N519HB, and classified it as a high-altitude balloon. At one point, tracking data showed it near 53,800 feet and traveling approximately 53 knots over inland San Diego County.

Folks here Chula Vista saw some chrome looking object hovering for 30 minutes until it moved off.
I watch no local news or local social media news and I reckon I missed out on aerial sightings.
