  • Housing starts have fallen 2.8% MoM
  • Home ownership rate has dropped
  • New home sales down from the previous month
  • Mortgage rates have increased by 10 basis points for the week ending May 15th
School sessions in the US are wrapping up for the school year across the US. This is the normal start for families looking to buy a new home. That is clearly slowing.

That is for July contracts. I'm surprised to see you didn't post that Oct. contracts are $88.98.

The average US consumer does not care. What they care about is the price they pay at the pump today. Everything is riding on the outcome of the current negotiations with Iran. As it is, gasoline and diesel prices are forecast to remain high through the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the housing market is forecast to remain nominally flat for this year. Not a good sign especially since building permits for new single-family homes have dropped.

Food prices continue to increase with a year-on-year increase of 3.2% for the month ending in April. Conflict-related global supply chain issues are one of the key contributors along with increased labor costs as well as diseases affecting crops and livestock.
