WASHINGTON: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb arrived in Washington on Saturday evening for a three-day visit during which he is expected to hold talks with US officials on trade, finance and investment.

Pakistan and the United States will resume negotiations on Monday on a broader bilateral economic partnership, diplomatic sources told Dawn.

During his visit, Aurangzeb is scheduled to meet officials from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), the US Export-Import Bank, the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), sources said.

A key focus of the visit will be discussions on the framework for a potential bilateral trade agreement aimed at expanding trade and investment between the two countries. The talks are expected to cover tariffs, market access, investment opportunities and broader economic cooperation.

Meetings with the Exim Bank and the DFC are also expected to explore avenues for financing infrastructure, energy and private-sector investment projects in Pakistan.

Aurangzeb’s visit comes as Pakistani and US officials continue negotiations over the global tariff regime announced by US President Donald Trump on April 2, 2025, under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which initially imposed a 29 per cent tariff on Pakistani exports.

A Pakistani delegation that visited Washington in July 2025 succeeded in persuading US officials to reduce the proposed tariff from 29 per cent to 19pc.

US technology firm proposes refinery modernisation plan for Pakistan in meeting with finance minister​

WASHINGTON: Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Monday met a delegation from Honeywell Technologies and discussed a proposed plan to modernise and expand Pakistan’s refinery sector.

According to the finance ministry, Aurangzeb met with a delegation from the company comprising Vice President General Manager Barry Glickman.

“During the meeting, the finance minister welcomed Honeywell’s proposed modernisation and expansion of Pakistan’s refinery sector, noting its potential to enhance the country’s domestic refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products,” it said.

“The meeting included discussions on Honeywell’s technology and equipment solutions, as well as potential financing through the US Exim Bank, the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), export credit agencies, and leading international banks,” it said.


“The finance minister emphasised that the proposed initiative would support Pakistan’s energy security, industrial development, and sustainable economic growth,” the finance ministry said.

The meeting took place during Aurangzeb’s three-day visit to Washington, where he is holding discussions with US officials and financial institutions on trade, investment and economic cooperation.

Earlier on Monday, Pakistan and the United States resumed talks on a broader economic partnership, with discussions expected to cover tariffs, market access, investment opportunities and expanding bilateral trade.

During his visit, Aurangzeb is also scheduled to meet officials from the Office of the US Trade Representative, the US ExBank, the DFC and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Meetings with US development and export financing agencies are aimed at exploring opportunities for funding infrastructure, energy and private-sector projects in Pakistan.

The visit comes as Islamabad and Washington continue negotiations that began last week over tariffs affecting Pakistani exports and a possible framework for a broader trade agreement following the global tariff measures announced by US President Donald Trump in April 2025.

Fair, but can we appreciate the man who got there and it's a commendable achievement for a minority in America, not everything needs to be taken with a cup of salt. How America struggles with its evangelical identity is none of our concern, only 1% of America's population is Muslim, America itself struggles with its Christian identity due to the various protestant denominations inside America itself.

Now that Fouji Foundation own part of PIA, they have sent their boy Naqvi to negotiate. They also got professional CEO for PIA now that its profits will benefit them.

PIA will turn profitable in no time. It can literally take huge chunk of share from Gulf airlines with direct flights to europe, USA etc

They used to do this, back in late 90s early 2000s their Biz/First product was very good value for money. Was not the best out there but for only around twice the price of economy you got a lot of bang for your money, plane was new and food both high quality and generous. They can easily return to glory given the right leadership
