The question is, will Iran start to militarily contest this with speed boats, and other form of attacks ? We may find out quite soon on that front.

Is the clock to further military action is ticking quicker than the oil clock ?

What applies to Iran in terms of well damage, applies to the other PGCC oil producers as well, so this will hurt not just Iran, but the PGCC and the world economy at large esp. if the damage needs years to repair..

Conventional wisdom suggested that Iran would be best to stay put. Cause the magic number is 80 days.

That is roughly how long it takes for the world oil market to go back to normal, and that's assuming the crisis did not deepen, and the oil production was not interfered with.

Iran can afford to wait up to 2 months before it needs to cut oil production, but once it does, it will take a long time to bring production back up, and even longer without China or Russia's support. But the situation in the US will be much worse over the next 60 days, when oil is slated to rise to $120-130 per barrel. Bear in mind, the summer travel season is starting on July 1, which is 2 months and some away, Iran can technically wait until then to see if they want to cap the well.

Also, they can simply burn the well (like what the Iraqi did to Kuwait oil field) instead of capping it, that would have been an environmental diaster but that would hurt less than capping the well.

Well thanks to SCOTUS ruling today (go to political thread) Trump has nothing but time unlike IRGC which have their own doomsday countdown clock. Shutdown rigs and damage them or allow them to overflow causing environmental disaster.
