Are you suggesting that the Americans love the Iranian regime and have no desire to confront Iran? Or are you forgetting that, for nearly five decades, organised "Death to America" rallies have been held in Iran, many of them associated with state institutions and the IRGC?

I find it a strange argument when people claim that the US is only confronting Iran because Israel told it to.

Iran has become significantly weaker after spending billions on policies aimed at expanding its regional influence since 2003. Some now argue that this has created an opportunity to dismantle the IRGC's grip on power.

I'm not sure about this claim of severing Internet cables, I know a few people have made this claim in various places.

But what is certainty known because even the semi official Iranian news outlet has also made mention of it - is that 116 telecommunications towers have been knocked out in the South of Iran by US strikes.

Deals with 48 companies worth over 60 Billion USD. Iraq is capitalizing on its new found importance to the US in the region.

Iraq is not free to exercise full control over the proceeds from its oil exports. Much of the revenue from Iraq's oil sales is held through an account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, giving Washington significant financial leverage over Baghdad and allowing the US considerable influence over the flow of those funds.

I suspect Iran could eventually find itself in a similar position if it were defeated and subjected to a US-backed post-war administration. Control over its oil revenues could become one of the mechanisms used to shape its future policies and limit its ability to challenge the United States.

Big powers absorb hits, nothing unusual. Soviet Union, China suffered a lot during bombardments and occupation by Germans and Japanese. Iran as a great/regional power is also absorbing hits, while following its goals/strategy.

If Iran was weak, like lets say Bahrain or emirates, US would open the Strait of Hormuz in a day or week.

Anyone can lob missiles at civilian ships. Even the Houthi rebels and Somali pirates have been doing that for years.

Let us know when Iran actually has a blue-water navy capable of enforcing a sustained blockade, rather than just firing missiles at civilian shipping.

After all those "great victories," Superpower Afghanistan somehow ended up watching its major cities come under relentless Pakistani airstrikes. So much for regional supremacy.

I'm still not sure why the Mighty Mullahs in Afghanistan and Iran haven't signed a security, strategic, military, and defence pact to create the world's next "invincible" power bloc. Instead, Iran keeps talking about a "regional security framework" with Pakistan, the Arab states, and Türkiye. Curious.
