RAF Fairford is a military airfield located in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, about four miles (6.4km) south of the town of Fairford.

It is owned by the UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD), but is operated on a day-to-day basis by the United States Air Force (USAF) under an agreement between the UK and US.

The site shares a long history with the American military, and has recently been used by US warplanes as a staging post for strikes on Iran due to its long runway, from which it can quickly deploy large bombers.

Historically, aircraft launched from the site have been involved in the Gulf War, the Kosovo War, and the Iraq War.

The rural area is typically quiet but about 170,000 people descend on the site every July for the Royal International Air Tattoo, the largest military show in the world.

Rubio says UK airbase incident involved a foreign state​

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the “hands of a foreign actor” were involved in an incident in which five men were arrested on suspected explosives and terrorism offences near a British airbase used by US forces to strike Iran, Reuters reports.

British police declared a major incident at the RAF Fairford base in western England following the arrests early on Sunday, and the government held a national emergency meeting.

“What happened, what almost happened, what could have happened in the UK over the weekend is a very serious situation. It’s one that clearly involves the hands of a foreign actor. I won’t get into great detail about that yet,” Rubio has told the Fox News network’s “Hannity” program late on Monday.

He has provided no evidence and did not give specific details.

So no explosives no actual real threat was overblown if there was even an actual incident that really did occur which if there had been a serious breach of security of any kind I highly doubt Britain would be ok let you guys go home on a few hundred pounds or euro etc I don’t think British intelligence would let an active threat out

This thing just gets stranger and stranger. President Trump stated "we know all about them" as if he was insinuating the UK-US intel agencies were watching this plot develop and were waiting for the right moment to act. And then, an apparent nothing burger?

I don't know what to make of it and a few folks in my .mil and mostly retired cops chat groups don't either.

Once Iranian proxies in Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq are dismantled, Iranian mullahs will lose most of their leverage in the region.

You're right bro. However, Houthis are mostly Zaidis who are closer to Sunnis than Shias. It's only due to other reasons that Houthis are acting as Iranian proxy. Under the current cicumstances, both Iran and Houthis will be unwilling to give up each other.

A smarter use of military might and negotiations/diplomacy combo can certainly push Houthis into the line. If Hothis' assh is kicked the right way and creative/honorable diplomatic options are offered to them, I see no reason for the Houthis issue remaining unresolved.
