Well, unless a candidate has 100% support from the electorate, there will always be some in the electorate who are ‘less thrilled’ about said candidate winning.
This is always a given, which is why for all practical purposes the goal being hyped now is if Zohran wins, does he win with at least 50.1% of the vote; does he have a mandate to carry out the changes he has campaigned upon. Gov. Hochul’s presence at last nights rally in Forest Hills Stadium says he has support in Albany, now he just had to finish across that line to make it easier for the governor to back him and not fear she will lose her seat in next year’s gubernatorial election.

I don't know why. They made those choices during the primaries.
That blame has to go to the party heads; Hakeem Jeffries and ‘ole Chuckles for why they picked such a weak washed up and discredited former governor like Cuomo to carry the status quo message.

2 things.

1.) Dem leadership doesn't really care that much on the NYC Mayor race, or the NY State race for that matter, that's ALWAYS going to be the Dem candidate that wins, they would put effort into Congressional District races rather than Gubernatorial races or Mayoral races

2.) The Democrats themselves are pushing further to the left. There was a poll from NBC saying more Democrats support the idea of Socialism than Capitalism. There is simply nobody out there can compete with Mandani inside the NY Dem. While there are always people who don't want a certain candidate.

With Silwa remaining in the race, the chance of anyone but Mandani winning in NYC is pretty damn high, and he is most likely riding on this and going after Hochul post when she step down.

In the implementation, if elected, people will come to realize that Zohran’s administration will still only be able to change things on the margins, at least for the first year. Many inefficiencies of laser focused upon lien getting the 4300 homeless on the subways and streets into the 4300 vacant supportive housing could be done, it would go a long way in changing the perception of what can be done. So shifting that perception, and shifting the platform that democrats have to run on, does both the dem leadership. As Jon Stewart points out, if you can really manage this city well, you get a lot of leeway in what you get to try to implement.

On Dems pushing to the left, it’s the same issue I have seen about Gen. Z becoming more conservative. There was a really great video by a professor in his late 20s, who’s analysis is that younger people are becoming more pragmatic, and not ideological, which in some parts of the country appears “conservative”, while in other parts appears “liberal” if not down right socialist.

I don’t think the system is setup to allow real socialist policies to be implemented unless we have a dramatic shift in the body politic of moderate voters as well as the will at the state level and federal level to carry out massive tax hikes. Not gonna happen.

Having Zohran face Trump but with Hochul’s support going into next year forces both NY Dems to prove what they can do within a limited margin. Based on how the midterms go, if congress flips, we could see more funding to NYC to address a backlog of needs, perhaps even federal funding for more housing to make the supply and demand math work on its own.

BTW, here are Zohran’s latest media appearances, in chronologically order. The natural New York long-shot seemly naive enthusiasm is with Zohran. It might be the hype that carries him into office, much like Obama.

P.S. In this one Jon Stewart reminds Zohran that livability is key need for those that pay a lot to live in the city. I couldn’t agree more with Jon and Andrew Shultz in this regard. We in the middle and upper class tax brackets are willing to pay just a little more if the city really does become so much more livable; cleaner, homeless and mentally ill supported, trash picked up and rats dealt with…. And the damn potholes fixed. OMG these potholes.

While the NYC Mayor's exposure is not particularly significant, he won't be able to solve anything beyond providing people with free bus rides and possibly better community services, which would be it. Still, that post would serve as a stepping stone for Mandani for the Governorship (Is it one word or two words? Anyway...), and then the change would be very different for him. It really depends on his popularity by the end of his term. Most likely going to be on how he deflects attacks from Trump.

In terms of the roadmap for the Democrats nationally, I have no doubt they are watching 2 events for sure. How Mandani brings the shift toward socialism, and how Newsom goes with 2028 Olympics, both event would have a major shift on economic policy and weirdly both going on a different direction, but it would nonetheless as a stepping point toward either a more conservative spending policy (ie Newsom, Beshear type leadership) or more progressive type leadership (Omar, AOC and Bernie). Probably this is the (or at least one of the) reason why Dem still refuse to have a valid leadership.
