US Political News and Trump’s China visit

Much of the US media interpreted the White House’s willingness to split DHS funding from the broader budget package as a recognition that the administration needed to recalibrate its deportation strategy after the political backlash over the Minneapolis deaths.

Republicans are divided over that approach.

While some lawmakers have acknowledged the need for changes following the shootings, conservatives have warned against concessions they say could weaken immigration enforcement.

Several have signaled they will push their own priorities during the upcoming DHS negotiations, including measures targeting states and cities that limit cooperation with federal authorities.

Although Congress has already approved six of the 12 annual funding bills, those measures account for only a minority of discretionary spending. The remaining bills fund large swaths of the federal government, making the lapse significant if it ends up being prolonged.

The Office of Management and Budget on Friday night issued a memo ordering agencies to prepare for an “orderly shutdown,” saying: “It is our hope that this lapse will be short.”

The US federal government has partially shutdown despite a last-ditch funding deal approved by the Senate.

The funding lapse began at midnight US eastern time (05:00 GMT) on Saturday, hours after senators agreed to fund most agencies until September. The bill includes just two weeks' funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees immigration enforcement, instead of shutting it down entirely.

The bill has yet to be approved by the House of Representatives, which is out of session.

US President Donald Trump struck the deal with Democrats after they refused to give more funding for immigration enforcement following the fatal shooting of two US citizens in Minneapolis by federal agents.

My god...

I call BS on this as Israel despised GHW Bush due to his administration's sustained pressure to resolve the Palestine issue, resulting in Oslo Accords. Bush I was also intelligent enough to end Gulf War 1 early, despite Israelis and CIA wanting to go to Baghdad. He was the last decent incorruptible President the US had.

I'm inclined to agree.

It depends on your definition of "Decent" and your worldview.

If you are talking about the last decent, as in good at doing his job, president, then the last one is probably Eisenhower, but if your definition of decent is being a non-corruptible good person, I don't think such a president ever existed. Lincoln is probably the closest, but he is not without a skeleton in his closet.

My god...

The FBI also said that that person is mentally unbalanced and said there was no reason to spend anymore resources in his claims. This is what President Trump was warning us all about. There is a bunch of bogus stuff out there that will hurt innocent people.

Trump administration news: Latest on the government shutdown, Epstein files and immigration crackdown

Updated 10:19 AM EST, Sun February 1, 2026

Partial U.S. government shutdown expected to last until at least Tuesday

What we're covering

Partial shutdown: The federal government likely won’t fully reopen until at least Tuesday, when the House is expected to hold critical votes. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries says the GOP can’t rely on Democrats to pass a deal struck by Senate Democratic leadership and President Donald Trump to temporarily fund DHS during negotiations on federal immigration enforcement.

Epstein files: The Justice Department on Friday released more than 3 million pages from the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, which contain references to Trump, Bill Clinton and other powerful figures. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche signaled on CNN this morning that the DOJ will not pursue new charges related to the case.

Election fears: Democratic officials are preparing for potential federal intrusion in the midterms, as Trump appointees search for evidence backing long-debunked election fraud claims. Blanche did not offer an explanation for spy chief Tulsi Gabbard’s involvement in a probe of Fulton County, Georgia, when pressed by CNN.

by the way.. is the political atmosphere as bad in the U.S. As Reddit makes it out to be? Because goddamn is reddit overwhelmingly left wing everytime i log on there people are hating on trump...

So are they an absolute minority or is this the sentiment in the U.S.

The internet is not real life, what you see there is a a sliver of views only. Reddit the biggest forums in that site are overwhelmingly left wing, however that site is also astroturfed and botted to the moon.
