A fair question and observation. Duke Cunningham was charged for corruption as well. IIRC, Bush 43 was President at the time. As a fellow veteran, President Bush could have intervened. He did not.

When I lived in Detroit some twenty years ago, nearly all our stores and gas stations in our neighborhoods were behind plexiglass.

Walk into a small lobby area and wait to be served by the cashier. Give your order and they will run around inside up and down aisles getting your items.

Often times, have to knock on plexiglass glass to get cashier's attention - "Not that, over there, keep going, yes! That!"

After a few times, just drove out to Dearborn so I can shop like a normal person.
 
Folks here seem to think we're making this up. We're not. This is a daily reality in Democrat-run hellholes where the rule of law is virtually non-existent.

Actually got a look behind the plexiglass one time in Detroit.

While pumping gas, a hoodrat put a gun to my head. Tossed a $20 bill over my shoulder and ran like hell back into the gas station.

The manager, saw what was happening and flung a door open for me to stand behind the counter and cash register.

Waited for twenty minutes, went back to my car and went home. Police never came., and we knew they wouldn't bother to anyways.

Sounds par for the course. I recently completed the opening of a new distribution center in Little Venezuela. You probably know it as Denver. We had a break-in during construction. $50K of tools and equipment stolen. Denver PD never came to investigate or even take a report.

While working for the City of Detroit on an inspection for contract compliance, walked around the window factory with the owner.

There was another recent break in attempt. Failed.

After the last break in through the roof, the owner installed barbed wire around the roof top and had two Rottweilers waiting for them if they cut through the barb wire.

One morning, I entered my neighborhood convenience store when they opened.

The pitbull made a dash for me. Someone forgot to fully shut the backroom door where the guard dog is kept during business hours.

On another inspection one early Monday morning, the owner had just found out all the copper plumbing was stolen, two semi trucks trailers. Asked him if he would show me.

I immediately identified the culprits. Heroin junkies and pointed to the empty syringes laying all around near the trailers.

Explained to the owner, who just moved his business to Detroit, simply putting up a fence will not work. He needs attack dogs, more than one.

I worked in a Boston supermarket during the early 1980s. We had shoplifters but it wasn't a severe problem. Most of the serious inner city crime was on the other side of the city from me...my section wasn't the "best" either. Just mediocre.

A few months ago I noticed plexiglass suddenly over the Tide in that very same supermarket and their carts have the wheel locks. Another supermarket nearby oddly rebuilt their store so the shopping was on the second floor. I think it was to prevent people from quickly pushing an entire carriage full of stuff out the door. Plus a noticeable amount of migrants are walking around.

They did not implemented a carriage/shopping cart escalator either which is seen in every supermarket in my area that is not on the ground floor.
