No wonder Trump was treated more warmly than Biden. Trump defended MBS after the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Even though U.S. intelligence concluded that MBS approved the assassination, Trump downplayed the findings and refused to impose sanctions on the crown prince.
Biden, on the other hand, criticized MBS over Khashoggi’s killing, which likely explains the difference in how they were received.
