US Political News and Views

I honestly don't know what's going on anymore. Trump now seems oddly obsessed with talking about the Ohio Republican Senate candidate's ass in speech after speech. Sorry, but that's beneath the office of the President of the United States.

Usually these kind of freaks go both ways. It's disturbing. 😂😂😂

Almost 50 million Americans have already voted, and campaign spending is approaching $12 billion. Let that sink in. Billions upon billions of dollars are being thrown into Senate, House, and governor races.

Some of it is honest activism. But in my view, far too much of it is filthy, dirty, corrupt special-interest money flooding our political system.

On the other hand, all signs point to much stronger voter enthusiasm this cycle than we saw in the 2022 midterms.

Who do you think counts the number of encounters at the border? And the number of releases after those encounters? The Fairy Godmother?

BP has some pretty good technology out there. They have a much better idea on how many are, or should I say were, crossing the border.
Look, I'm not arguing that Border Patrol agents don't know what they're seeing on the ground. That's not the issue.

My point is where did the 10-14 million figure come from?

A number that specific and that large doesn't just pop into someone's head. There has to be a source behind it.

So let's not go around in circle here. If your friends are relying on a source, just show the source. Then we can discuss the actual evidence instead of discussing what somebody's friends supposedly said.

Google: How Many Illegals in America?

15 million seems to be the consensus.

Neither side is serious about campaign finance reform and eliminating the dark money. That's why I have been saying for years now that our elected representatives are chosen by and paid for by the billionaires, lobbyists and special interest groups.
Nah, I don't buy the "both sides are the same" argument on this one.

Democrats have pushed campaign-finance reform more than once, and Republicans politicians have repeatedly stood in the way. The explosions of dark money didn't just fall from the sky either. A conservative Supreme Court helped create the rules that made it possible.

Two examples:
The DISCLOSE Act, which would have increased transparency around political spending and dark-money donors. Republicans blocked it in the Senate.

The For the People Act (H.R. 1 / S. 1), which included campaign-finance and dark-money reforms. Republicans blocked that too.

When I make a claim, I bring receipts.

Oklahoma, ranked next to dead last in voter participation in 2022 (last midterms), is seeing 20% increase in early voting this year.

Voter enthusiasm - Registered Democrats and Independents.

Democrats are trying to distance themselves from Hasan "America deserved 9-11" Piker because he keeps saying the quiet parts out loud:

Come on, man. I could play the same game with Alex Jones. The guy pushed the claim that 9/11 was an inside job. But I don't go around pretending he speaks for all Republicans.

So why should Hasan be treated as the spokesperson for all Democrats? The guy spends a good chunk of his time criticizing what he calls corporate Democrats. He has influence with a relatively small progressive wing, but turning him into the poster child for the entire Democratic Party just isn't based on reality.

I am interested in what he says about Democrat corruption.

Please name a few among the progressive wing he has influence with.

Fair enough. I'll look into it when I get a chance and see where that 15 million figure is coming from.

If that's the number, it's still a pretty serious issue in my book. But it's also very different from some of the claims I've seen that 10-20 million new arrivals came during the Biden years.

Anyway, I'm a bit busy right now, but I'll do some Google research later and take a look at the source behind that estimate.

I do. Neither party has offered a genuine solution to dark money or whatever one wants to call it from corrupting our elections. We need real constitutional reform.

Think we need a US Constitutional Amendment to ban corporate and limit individual contributions for federal elections.

GOD promised this land to these 15million people. That is why they are there. They are not illegals, they are taking back what is there's.

( Yes - a trolling comment - but appropriate for the USA to feel the logic ? )

Let's not troll then, ok?

As for the actual history, the area now known as the US Southwest was ceded in part via the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, in which the US also PAID Mexico for the land as part of the treaty, and, later, additional lands because of the expansion of the railroad. That future acquisition was more favorable for laying track than the land to the north.

Any claims of stolen lands is just so much BS it is mind boggling.

Individual limits do exist to an extent. But, as Congress always does, they built enough loopholes into it that any legislation is effectively worthless.

What I don't like and will use Texas as an example, is the amount of private and corporate money from California being poured into the Texas Senate and gubernatorial races.

Both parties do it though the Democrats seem to do it more because a lot of their donors happen to be multimillion and billionaires.
