Trump now says they still aren't taking weapon procurement seriously. So to push the issue he'll say "what are you going to do if you can't turn to us for weapons procurement for your own defense?"

I'll say it again.

All Trump has to do to force Europe to do anything is threaten tariffs.

If he wants them to increase military spending, he can do it that way with zero fuss.

He MUST want Greenland for something else. And he has stated it clearly if you have been listening. Every time he speaks, he mentions the golden dome first but he quietly adds "the resources" as a footnote.

In reality, he wants the resources. The golden dome is the "side hussle". In fact, it may be a complete red herring, as I don't see Russia threatening USA ever.

Don't get me wrong. He does impress me. Very manipulative and clever. Anyone who thinks he is anything less is wrong.

He will get Greenland by manipulating Denmark. If there was to be any pointing of guns, Denmark would back down. The Greenlanders themselves wouldn't sell to him. But Denmark is actually Greenland's weakness in this situation - they can and likely will be coerced.

US President Donald Trump has withdrawn an invitation for Canada to join his newly constituted Board of Peace, in the latest spat between the North American neighbours.

"Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada's joining," Trump said on Truth Social in a post addressed to Prime Minister Mark Carney, who made headlines this week when he warned of a "rupture" in the US-led global order.

Canada had indicated that while it would not pay to be on the board, it would join.

Meanwhile, EU chief Antonio Costa said European leaders have serious doubts about the scope of the board, but were willing to work with the body in Gaza.
The board, which gives Trump wide decision-making powers as chairman, is being billed by the US as a new international organisation for resolving conflicts.

Trump did not give a reason in Thursday evening's post as to why he had decided to revoke Canada's offer.

Carney's office did not immediately respond. The prime minster had indicated last week he would accept Trump's offer on principle.

But Ottawa had indicated in recent days that it would not pay the $1bn (£740m) membership fee which Trump has said permanent members will be asked to pay to help fund the board.

Carney delivered his speech at La Citadelle, a 19th Century military fortress in Quebec City that was built to secure Canada from invasion.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has called for national unity in his first address on home soil after making waves in Davos with his warning of a "rupture" in the postwar international order.

In remarks directed to Canadians, Carney said his government intends to move quickly to implement "ambitious" plans to bolster the economy in the face of global turmoil.

He delivered the speech ahead of a meeting with his federal cabinet retreat at La Citadelle, a military fortress in Quebec City built to secure Canada from invasion in the 19th Century.

Carney also took a swipe at President Donald Trump, who said in his own Davos address that "Canada lives because of the United States".

The prime minister on Thursday said that Canada and the US "have built a remarkable partnership" over many decades.

"Board of Peace" is probably in reality quite basic level trolling by Mr Trump, who, by his own admission is getting rather...bored of peace. Carney has done well to dodge this ever evolving circus.

That is some weird logic, why would Canada wants to increase their Defense budget? they have no enemies, I understand US pressure on European countries because of whole Russia/Ukraine war but why would Canada spend their defense budget ? they are not in any conflict nor under any threat, unless you count America.

It won't, along with Denmark, these threats will only make Canada and Greenland seek realignment somewhere; gone is the time the US can count on Canada as a trusted ally.

All these "this is done to force them to increase defence budget" is just BS, it's like asking Australia or Austria to increase their defence budget, I mean, for what? So that Indonesia and Germany don't invade Australia or Austria, respectively?

There is something called Green/White Paper on Defence, which lists any potential enemy of a region for a country; the UK did it, the Canadian did it, Australia did it; only one country in the entire Western Hemisphere did not, and that's the US.

Its a new era of middle powers dictating global terms, and Canada is in prime position to lead.

Trump is killing the last of the leverage the US used to have over Canada, and waking us up from the delusion that the Americans are reliable partners...they're not and never were.

Super powers will continue existing, but the rise of the middle powers means that the world will be far less dependent on 1 or 2 nations for economy and military.

That is the issue here most cannot see.

I recently had an article published in an economic magazine about how "Make in USA" could be coming back to the US by 2050, how to compete with China's insulated production chain, and how it would not work if the US turned against its allies (like Mexico and Canada) like that. Probably will post that article here after I sanitize all tracable detail.

Sooner or later, Americans would wake to the fact that they cannot do everything alone, and revert course on Trump's isolation policy, but by then it would have been too late because all other allies we had would have a serious judgment before they are putting their faith on the US again, 70 years building a network of allies, and got rolled back by a single man in less than 11 months......
