Tangential but there is a simple point to be made -

Unless you are a US citizen - birth or naturalization is irrelevant but someone who has PLEDGED their loyalty to this country both verbally and on paper. You technically have NO BUSINESS participating in political activities of this country BECAUSE your status EVEN as a permanent resident is akin to that of a guest.

Now student protests are NOTHING new - happened from the days of Eisenhower to Vietnam to today BUT these were more often than not American citizen students who have either birth or legal(or both) right to protest the direction of their government or ipso facto the institution which gets funding from their government or you pay them money.

Now if you’re an international student - you’re here for education - if you have an objection to how the money you pay the university is spent - then perhaps first switch the university but also realize that you are let in as a guest into a country.
Guest admissions that much like a hotel have terms and conditions - which technically was the onus of the educational institution to clearly set boundaries for instead of making claims about protecting free speech and then throwing people under the bus.

So while there is massive hue and cry over international students or faculty being deported over pro-Palestinian stances - there should also be highlights and criticism of university management that either did not set boundaries or made tall claims on protecting their speech when truly THERE is no legal precedent for non-US citizens.

It is in my limited interpretation “We the people” - of the United States. Not “We the people” - whomsoever has their feet on the soil at this moment in time.

It doesn't matter why he was detained, the court case had not been deposed, which mean by the constitution he would have rights to face his accuser, that ICE agent is taking that person's right away from facing their accuser, that's violate 4th and 5th amendment, that's unconstitutional and simply against the judge's order (for that person to face his accused, which is the Boston PD IIRC) that's why the ICE agent is facing a contempt charge.

I mean you would wanted it that way, right? If you committed a crime in the US, you stay in US to serve the punishment, otherwise non-Citizens can just kill anyone or steal anything and not be able to hold liable and punished for because you just deported him. He isn't going to serve anything in his home country with a crime he committed in the United States.

The thing is, Martell-Lebron can now apply for a criminal justice visa and legit become US Citizens and most likely going to sue the Federal Government because of this act by a single ICE agent, and guess which side the immigration court will side with here? And if that agent wait until the case was deposed (Most likely will be found guilty and probably just a fine) and nabbed him there, he can then detain and deport him.
