It is indeed unfortunate. I know that for a fact. People siding with the illegals are becoming more and more adept at providing SSNs that come back as "clean".

The best thing that can happen is they give their own SS#...because when they retire they are going to be hit with a shocker.

So this what can happen:.
You get SS money deducted from your paycheck..up until a maximum a year and then no more is taken out. The top 40 quarters are used to determine your retirement payment amount.

However what can happen is if somebody uses your SS# and is having money taken out of their paycheck too it will cause your paycheck deductions to end early.

So how is that a problem. If the IRS determines somebody was fraudulently using an SS# the money will be later taken out of your total and tossed into a misc bucket...and then unfortunately they don't alert you of this. You have to check the SS page yourself.

If you don't notice...well when you retire you will realize the amount is lower than the max you thought you had deducted out of your paycheck.
