Venezuela - US Conflict: News, Updates

why bother? you can use kidnap or any phrase else you want. people cheer wars against other countries from other corners. more wars coming. watch out.

What is up @Viet Have you given up on the world?

The key difference between Trinh Xuan Thanh and other dissidents is that he did not hold citizenship of the host country, while others like Le Trung Khoa do. A lot of "sources" have been saying there's constant surveillance around Nhan's place, but that's hard to confirm. So if Vietnam really thinks this is doable, maybe it should try bringing that "easy target" back first, and only then talk about going all in on kidnapping German citizens later.
OK. I see.

NY Times is often reliable when they quote the anonymous sources within the American administrations. And people above have also suggested that the public protests by the VP of Venezuela might be just for domestic consumption. Oh, the drug charges are bogus; it is mostly about oil.
For the sake of Venezuelan people: Resistance is futile otherwise they would be in even worse situation. Make the best of the situation. Not every country who works with America is at a total loss--some thrive.

How Trump Fixed On a Maduro Loyalist as Venezuela’s New Leader

Nicolás Maduro balked at a gilded exile. U.S. officials then saw a more pliant option in his vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, known for stabilizing Venezuela’s economy.

Mr. Maduro in late December rejected an ultimatum from President Trump to leave office and go into a gilded exile in Turkey, according to several Americans and Venezuelans involved in transition talks.

...
Weeks earlier, U.S. officials had already settled on an acceptable candidate to replace Mr. Maduro, at least for the time being: Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, who had impressed Trump officials with her management of Venezuela’s crucial oil industry.

The people involved in the discussions said intermediaries persuaded the administration that she would protect and champion future American energy investments in the country.

“I’ve been watching her career for a long time, so I have some sense of who she is and what she’s about,” said one senior U.S. official, referring to Ms. Rodríguez.

“I’m not claiming that she’s the permanent solution to the country’s problems, but she’s certainly someone we think we can work at a much more professional level than we were able to do with him,” the official added, referring to Mr. Maduro.

It was an easy choice, the people said. Mr. Trump had never warmed up to the Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who had organized a winning presidential campaign in 2024, earning her the Nobel Peace Prize this year. Since Mr. Trump’s re-election, Ms. Machado has gone out of her way to please him, calling him a “champion of freedom,” mimicking his talking points on election fraud in the United States and even dedicating her Peace Prize to him.

It was in vain. On Saturday, Mr. Trump said he would accept Ms. Rodríguez, saying that Ms. Machado lacked the “respect” needed to govern Venezuela.

U.S. officials say that their relationship with Ms. Rodríguez’s interim government will be based on her ability to play by their rules, adding that they reserve the right to take additional military action if she fails to respect America’s interests. Despite Ms. Rodríguez’s public condemnation of the attack, a senior U.S. official said that it was too soon to draw conclusions about what her approach would be and that the administration remained optimistic that they could work with her.

Mr. Trump declared on Saturday that the United States intended to “run” Venezuela for an unspecified period and reclaim U.S. oil interests, an extraordinary assertion of unilateral, expansionist power after more narrow, and also contested, arguments about stopping the flow of drugs.

China can easily kidnap or assassinate its dissidents, like Li Hongzhi, who are living in the West, Why didn't they do that?

Because the lessons of five thousand years of history tell us that using assassination to execute a dissident will only make him a sympathetic martyr. Not only will it not kill his thoughts, but it will also spread them more widely.

The real solution is to make him surrender and become your subordinate, or to put him on the same side as the enemy of the nation, so as to truly solve the problem.

For example, unlike countries such as the Soviet Union and France, China did not execute the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty, but instead made him an ordinary citizen of New China. This action completely extinguished the desire of the remnants of the Qing Dynasty to restore themselves.

So the real problem was leadership that couldn’t read the geopolitical room or play the game properly, even with one of the world’s largest oil reserves?

Maduro and his predecessor Chavez, both were definitely imbecile, power hungry, corrupt and manipulators. No doubt about that. They polluted a flourishing economy to bring dooms to the Country and didn't do much for the populace and to enhance their defence capabilities either.

However, that doesn't give free hand to any foreign power to meddle in their internal affairs, that to this blatantly (read robbery). It was up to the Venezuelans to change their destiny.

I would argue that he neglected the need to become a fully militarised state and to ensure he had loyalists in said military. Venezuela needed to be a North Korea type police state to even stand a chance. The threat of "fire all missiles!" is what keeps PyongYang safe.

If North Korea were in South America, it would perish faster than Venezuela.

Venezuela's mistake lies in Chavez's populism.

Chavez and Maduro nationalized oil in order to gain the support of the majority of Venezuelans. Then use the money from selling oil to import daily necessities to support the entire country.

You may not know that the working hours of Venezuelans are particularly short, for example, their public sector only works 25 hours a week, from 8am to 1pm.

The people in this country have become accustomed to laziness, and no one can save them.

What is up @Viet Have you given up on the world?
did you read the newest US security doctrine?
in the chapter "the strategy" the US want to exercise "flexible realism".
bombing Iran, Nigeria is part of flexible realism, so kidnap Maduro
welcome to the jungle

You are right, more wars are coming.

You are Vietnamese, and you should have seen clearly from the war between Cambodia and Thailand that the peace of the Mekong countries actually comes from China's maintenance and control of the regional order. Similarly, the peace of this world actually comes from the maintenance and adherence to order by a few major powers.

The invasion actions of Russia and the United States have completely disrupted the international order that sustains peace in this world. So more wars are coming, and a new era of imperialism and colonialism is coming.

Last year, Blinken said: if you are not at the table, you are on the menu. It now appears that he was not bluffing and a country that does not have the strength to protect itself will end up on the American menu. Even the EU is on the menu.

Ccp threatens to destroy Thailand export economy if not agreeing to ceasefire with Cambodia. what differs China from the US and Russia is you are yet to resort to invasion or bombing other countries.

Someone posted an image/video above where the Arab oil kingdoms like Saudi Arabia are floating in boats full of US Dollars while another oil rich nation like Venezuela's boat is sinking. People here are quite critical of the Arab world in this forum but they by being America's vassals or at least agreeing to the American terms, tens of millions have been lifted out of poverty over the last decades and those millions are educated and assets for their respective countries.

The United States would not have looked at Venezuela had it been dirt poor and not lived next door.

Other countries need to be very careful way USA behaved in criminal manners say analysts
