Secretary of State Rubio says Maduro had 'multiple opportunities' to avoid this

BBC

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio

We're now hearing from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

He says Maduro is not the legitimate president. It is "not just us saying it", he says, adding the first Trump administration and the Biden administration also said the same.

Maduro is also not recognised by the EU and multiple countries around world, Rubio says.

He describes the Venezuelan president as a "fugitive of American justice", with a $50m reward.

"I guess we saved ourselves $50m," Rubio says, before Trump chimes in with: "We should make sure... don't let anybody claim it."

Rubio continues by saying that Maduro had "multiple opportunities" to avoid this, but chose instead to "act like a wild man" and "play around".

He describes Maduro as a man who decided to "invite Iran into his country" and "flood the US with gang members".

Maduro thought nothing would happen, Rubio says, before adding that Trump is "not a game player".

When Trump says he is going to address a problem, he actions it, Rubio adds.

Maduro is a wanted narcoterrorist dictator. An illegitimate dictator that has destroyed his country. This was a long time coming.
smh, the DOJ hasn't publicly released any evidence linking Maduro to a drug cartel. So you declaring him a narcoterrorist is a claim unproven in a court of law. The US is in breach of international law and UN Charter. It leaves the door open for others to justify kidnapping of heads of state setting a dangerous precedence. Russia can justify kidnapping Zelensky. China can justify the same with Taiwanese leaders.

I heard that Venezuelan oil is harder to get and dirty, requiring extensive refining. So it cannot be produced at the same cost as the Saudis and GCC. I also think it will be a very long time before Venezuelan oil is able to flood the markets. Saudis have 5 to 7 years to adapt.

I guess Middle East Oil was cheap USA had no choice but had to rely on this unstable energy source from the Middle East and all other political problems came along being an ally with the Saudis . Now they grabbed Venezuelan huge oil and minerals resources , They can now safely take out oil close to USA.

Summary

  • Donald Trump has given a news conference after the US launched strikes on Venezuela and captured its President Nicolas Maduro - press watch live above
  • The US president says the US is going to "run" Venezuela "until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition"
  • US oil companies will fix Venezuela's "broken infrastructure" and "start making money for the country", Trump added
  • He says no US servicemen were killed in the operation and the US is "ready" to stage a second "and much larger" attack on the country if needed

Maduro and his wife 'gave up' before being taken into custody - Gen Caine

BBC

The US military maintained "totally the element of surprise", having dismantled and disabled Venezuelan air defence systems, says General Caine.

He says they arrived at Maduro's compound at 01:01 ET and isolated the area. On arrival there, the helicopters "came under fire", and they responded with "overwhelming force", he says.

One helicopter was hit but all US aircraft have been able to return home, he says.

Maduro and his wife then "gave up" and were taken into custody by the Department of Justice, says Caine, and at 03:29 ET they boarded the USS Iwo Jima.

This looked like a coup. It is most likely that the Venezuelan military was working with US military.

‘Hegemonic acts’: China slams US for strikes against Venezuela, capturing Maduro

US conducted ‘large scale’ attack on Venezuela, captured the president, his wife and flew them out of country

Berk Kutay Gokmen |03.01.2026 - Update : 03.01.2026

China on Saturday slammed the US for “hegemonic acts” against Venezuela and its President Nicolas Maduro, referring to military strikes and the leader's capture, urging Washington to abide by the UN Charter.

“China is deeply shocked by and strongly condemns the US’s blatant use of force against a sovereign state and action against its president,” a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

The remarks came after US President Donald Trump said Washington carried out a "large scale strike" against Venezuela, and that Maduro and his wife were captured and flown out of the country.

“Such hegemonic acts of the US seriously violate international law and Venezuela’s sovereignty, and threaten peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean region. China firmly opposes it,” the spokesperson said.

“We call on the US to abide by international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and stop violating other countries’ sovereignty and security,” the spokesperson said.

Earlier, Venezuela’s government said the US attacked civilian and military installations in multiple states, and declared ‌a national ‌emergency.

The attacks came after months of tension, as the US accused Maduro of being involved in drug trafficking. Maduro denied being a cartel leader and had expressed readiness to hold talks.

Separately, China’s Foreign Ministry and the Chinese Embassy in Venezuela advised citizens to temporarily refrain from traveling to the Caribbean country.

Chinese nationals and institutions in Venezuela are advised to closely monitor the local security situation, strengthen safety precautions and emergency preparedness, and avoid unnecessary outings, a statement said.

🇻🇪 Venezuela President Maduro on Israel:

“They have sown an ideology more dangerous than Nazism.

They justify raids, extermination, genocide, and atomic bombs"

they'll come for the Christians, Catholics."

This is why he had to go.

talk is cheap.

What he should have done is said all the right things while quietly building his nations capabilities in the background and securing critical alliances. Instead he operated like a complete and total fool and the white man exposed him for it.

I don't think Allah has ever rewarded stupidity.

China Slams US ‘Hegemonic Acts’ After Strikes on Venezuela

China said it’s “deeply shocked” by the US’s military strikes on Venezuela and its capture of President Nicolas Maduro.

China “strongly condemns the US’s blatant use of force against a sovereign state and action against its president,” a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a statement late Saturday. “Such hegemonic acts of the US seriously violate international law and Venezuela’s sovereignty, and threaten peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean region. China firmly opposes it.”

China — the biggest buyer of oil from the South American country, as well as its largest creditor — is the latest in a string of global leftist nations including Brazil, Russia, Colombia, Mexico and Cuba that have denounced the US military action against Venezuela. In the run-up to Saturday’s strike, Beijing had offered its support to the Maduro regime following months of growing pressure from the Trump administration.

“We call on the US to abide by international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and stop violating other countries’ sovereignty and security,” the ministry in Beijing said.

All we hear is a lot of wordy language directly from US President, US Vice President, US Military, US TV announcement, Twitter/X etc in order to control the narrative.

We didn't hear much news from Venezuela side - they speak Spanish only. No English.

Definitely bully boy tactics
No way is USA allowing China or russian influence in south America
Or indeed in the gulf states
Just try it immediate regime change by USA
