1. 200 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves, 34th largest in the world

2. 300 billion barrels of crude oil reserves, largest in the world

3. 4 billion tons of iron ore reserves, worth nearly $600 billion

4. 8,000+ tons of gold resources, the largest in Latin America

5. 500+ million tons of coal reserves

6. 2% of the world’s total renewable freshwater resources

7. Untapped strategic minerals including nickel, copper, and phosphates

If Venezuelans get stubborn US is not going to deploy troops there. Especially not with US forces already spread across South China Sea, Europe, and Middle East.

If US commits to a large ground campaign in South America somebody in those three arenas is going to make a move.

Sure as a percent maybe it is declining but holy crap look at how much it has gone up in the last 25 years.

Even going down from 66% to 56% doesn't mean there is some sudden increase in demand in other reserve currencies as there once was from 2001 to 2013. The entire market is almost flat since 2014. The dollar didn't go from 66% to say 20% which would show a healthy expanding market where other currencies are being grabbed.

looks like it has stagnated for the last 10 years even in dollar terms

meanwhile the total amount of assets held as foreign exchange reserves during the same period has increased significantly, showing the US dollar's relative decline
