1748681011963.pngVietnamese mangoes have captured 97% of China's mango import market share, surpassing exports from Thailand, Peru, and Australia. Competitive pricing, consistent quality, and timely supply underpin this market presence.

China imported mangoes worth USD 29 million in the first quarter of 2025, a substantial increase from last year. Among the key statistics, Vietnam exported nearly 40,700 tons, generating USD 28 million, marking a steep rise from prior figures. The average export price increased by 72.6%.

Vietnam's proximity to China is a logistical advantage, reducing costs and enhancing fruit quality preservation. The export price averaged USD 700 per ton, while Thailand, Peru, and Australia ranged from USD 6,000–11,000 per ton. Vietnam capitalizes on an off-season harvest from September to March, entering the market when demand peaks. Off-season premium-grade mangoes sold at around USD 4 per kilogram.

Specialty varieties like Hoa Loc and Cat Chu have been popular for both fresh consumption and processing. Around 2,000 hectares in the Mekong Delta are VietGAP and GlobalGAP certified, essential for high-end market access.

Challenges include fluctuating demand from May as China harvests its crop, causing import demand to fall and impacting prices, sometimes as low as a few cents per kilogram. Relying on a single market poses risks. The sector must diversify export destinations and invest in processing and preservation technologies. Expanding certified areas enhances competitiveness.

Simply ridiculous
Vietnam’s mango $700 per ton
Thailand $6,000-$11,000
Vietnam farmers will kill Thailand agra industry.

in the vid Vietnam accounts for 50 percent of global dragon fruit production.
welcome to the rat race.

So why would anyone buy overpriced Thai mangoes instead of opting for cheaper Vietnamese mangoes?

Existence is truth. Thai mango can be sold at this price there must be a reason why it is worth this price.

maybe Thai mango is packed in gold plated box? reserved for rich Chinese?
price, quality should fit otherwise people don’t buy.
Vietnam just becomes the first country that successfully breeds high priced yellowtail fish. this kind of fish accounts for 50 percent of Japanese aquatic culture. $40 per kilogram.
wait, after we start mass production we will offer $5 per kilogram.
Let see if Japanese consumers willing to pay $40 made in JP or $5 produced in VN for the same fish.

Just today, I bought a near-empty (3.8kg full weight with only 700g flesh!) Thailand durian in local supermarket, which made me frustrated till now.🥹:taz: I fully support to expand more fruit importing channels to bring more better fruits. If Viet mango is better and cheaper then come on just import more!

Is this real 97% ? How good are Vietnamese mangoes, as good as South Asian ? Chinese are not consuming that much fruits, a Chinese only consumes about half amount by an American. ASEAN countries can sell more tropical fruits to China.

The way Vietnam is progressing she will be developed country within 3 decades....5th Asian tiger 🐅

Southeast Asian fruits are good and cheap.

Importing fruits from our neighbors is why Singapore can enjoy fruits cheaper than Japan and South Korea despite not having an agriculture industry.

Koreans and Japanese consumers have to pay for overpriced fruits because they have to protect their domestic agriculture, even though they don't have a competitive advantage here.

Vietnam is indeed set to become Asia's fifth tiger and will likely cross the middle-income trap to become a developed country. But we are talking about fruits.

And Vietnamese fruits have only beaten the Thais for the time being, mainly because of the political turmoil in Thailand in recent years. And Vietnam is not strong in high end fruits, they just use low price dumping to grab the market from Thailand, Malaysia and other countries.

meanwhile durian price crashed to less than $1 in Vietnam due to expanding production and weak demand. cheaper than ever.

China buys 96% of Vietnam’s durian exports

By Thi Ha November 5, 2026 | 03:08 pm PT

China accounted for nearly 96% of Vietnam’s durian exports in the first nine months of the year, leaving the industry with virtually no alternative market.

Durian shipments fetched more than US$3.45 billion during the period, a 25% year-on-year jump, according to preliminary statistics from the customs department.

Mainland China accounted for nearly $3.3 billion, a 27.6% increase and a market share that went up from 93.6% last year.

Vietnam’s durian exports could rise by 20% this year to $4.5-4.7 billion.
