Vietnam’s Hai An Transport & Stevedoring has embarked on a new fleet expansion plan with an order for up to four container ships from Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co.

The shipping and logistics company, which is expanding its container trade routes to Europe and the US, has penned two firm 7,100-teu newbuildings at the state-owned shipyard.

The deal includes an option for an additional two ships.

Damen said that the construction activities on their TSHD 1000 trailing suction hopper dredger are advancing rapidly in Vietnam.

Damen is building the TSHD 1000 at Shipyard 189 in Haiphong, Vietnam.

Shipyard 189 was established in 1989 and has built more than 150 vessels for military and commercial customers for both Vietnam and foreign countries.

In more recent times, Yard 189 has built complex ships and special purpose barges using the design, technology and accessories supplied by Damen.
