I just try to predict the future. I am neutral in this mess, not pro, not con. Similar to as I said Vietnam gov probably wants to joint local produce Comac aircraft. The Vietjet’s order of 10 Comac C909 is a bait.
Personally I think it makes sense we produce C909 and C919 for domestic island hopping and for international route to China.

Comac will most likely become the third big three after Boeing and Airbus in the 2030s when the C929 has become in service.

Vietnam should capitalize this opportunity to become an assembly hub for Comac in ASEAN.

If so, China will do again like in the 1960-1970s.

That will not happen anytime soon.

China imposes arms embargo on Vietnam since the Ming, still in place if I am not mistaken. Out of fear Vietnam can make Southeast Asia to colonies.
There are some scenarios like the invasion of China by the French and the Japanese invasion of China in WW2 in the past, when Vietnam and allies supplied China with weapons and foods. And vice versa during French and US invasion of Vietnam when China supplied military supplies.

unless there is a global war on the horizon that possibility Ccp gives Vietnam any advance weapon tech is slim. But who knows maybe Xi Jinping has a good heart.

That's not very true. China did supply many weapons that were in PLA services at the time to Vietnam during the anti-France and anti-America wars in the last century.

No, not direct threat yet, but nobody is certain in the future with the psycho. Better to be prepared just in case.
Here in Germany the gov goes into overdrive. Military spending as if there is no tomorrow, all men can be eventually called into the arny or reserve.

The Germans just can't forget their supposed glorious memory of WW II. They should be caged otherwise...

Unless the invasion or war directly threatens China's security like getting close to the Chinese border. China was burned by Vietnam after Anti-America war in 1970s.

Vietnam will always be a geographical liability to China like Korea.

China will never allow any adversary to occupy its eastern doorstep and southern doorstep.

In history, China has indeed invaded Vietnam (and Korea) multiple times. But China has never toleranced foreign invaders invade Vietnam (and Korea). Even if we don't talk about China's aid during the Vietnam War, and even in the late Qing Dynasty facing collapse, China sent its last strength to help the Vietnamese (Koreans) resist the French (Japanese). In history, China has long proven through actions that it will protect these two countries. I don't know what reason you have to doubt China's determination.

Of course nuclear weapons are out of the question. Who can guarantee that you won't drop a nuclear bomb on us?
