Okay so China would be upset and?? Should Vietnam choose to buy subs from Japan That's their business. It has to look out for its own best interests.

Oh I'm sure probably is unlikely, I was just simply trying to state that Vietnam has to do what's in its best interest not what some other country thinks.

The relationship between Viet Nam and Japan since diplomatic relation established 30 plus years ago has always been economic, nothing more and nothing less, and this relationship is a disappointed one to be the least speaking and has deteriorated greatly over the years. If you read enough Vietnamese news you'll see that Viet Nam doesn't really want to mention Japan in our news like we used to. And that's just economic relationship. Zero chance of Japan selling any military products to Viet Nam and zero chance of Viet Nam wanting to buy anything from Japan; those days are long gone.

Technical yes, we can do what we want, reality no, we can’t do what we want. we are squeezed between two big elephants so Vietnam’s best interest is not to get into the fight with either.
As for Japan, we don’t see them as a threat unlike the Chinese. If they assist us with military buildup then ok, if not, it’s ok, too.

Recently I have noticed on FB quite a few articles by Japan taking jabs at Viet Nam, lol. They are obviously not too happy with us recently. They got dropped from the Ninh Thuan nuclear powerplant, their automotive brands got squeezed out of our market by Vinfast very..fast, their military products got zero interests from us like the Phillipines, and the dagger is they get dropped from the high-speed rail (their absolute fault). Japan has no want to blame except themselves for the deteriorating relationship between the two countries.

That’s not weakness. Look at Ukraine, Iran, they get wrecked, what victory would look like? Life is short, the goal must be not war but seek a peaceful settlement.

As for going to war, that’s always a dead-end. Singapore former gov chief was asked on US military power on Vietnam. He is Chinese, he knows Vietnam, to win against Vietnam the US must be smarter, their feet be faster than the Vietnamese. Otherwise you see, he smiles, because he knows the outcome.

Yes, at the end Millions of US soldiers, almost the entire US navy, land army, Air Force were fighting until exhaustion, were unable to win the war and withdrew.

By that logic you should handover whatever islands china is demanding and settle everything....peace is always great but it should not come at the cost of your sovereignty or decision making of your country....

How can china object if Vietnam wants to buy submarines from Japan or western countries? If your peaceful nature is giving china this much leverage then its a plain stupidity by Vietnam

I think Vietnamese don't need lectures always from you little Indians on how they should conduct their relations with others esp with China. Next time, try to win a war with seven times smaller Pakistan first before you lecture others so your country won't get dumped by the real superpower US.
