Vietnam has just released a highly classified documentary footage of the country's early days of missile development. The program officially got approved on August 13th, 2014 at The Central Military Commission (the highest civilian and military leadership of VPA) meeting in Ha Noi. The footage covers progress through 2018, at Viettel's old facilities.

The missile seems to be a copy of Russia Kh35 antiship missile. All other domestic cruise missiles probably have this origin.
I think after 10y those old images can be made public. The spy agencies in the US, China, UK most likely knew the program. There is always a leak. Human factor.

Here's the clip

Not long ago this island made fish sauce as main product, it still makes today. However thanks to massive influx of money, it wants to become a clone of Singapore.
It’s late prime minister Lee Kuan Yew would be proud.

Not a copy due to many design differences. VCM air intake is S-duct, uses Ku band radar seeker for the terminal phase with the range of 60 km, uses turbojet engine. In contrast, Kh-35 does not have S-duct intake, uses X-band radar seeker for terminal phase with range of only 20 km, uses turbofan engine. Other differences: vsm01.jpeg

@Viet

Slightly off topic but do you know if Google Pixel phones are available in Vietnam?

Hi friend, I am not familiar with the local distribution. I think because Viet Nam is the major producer of Google phones so you can buy it at local stores or websites. But beware there is a hack, as Google doesn’t list Vietnam as entity for local distribution so guarantee or support may be limited or nonexistent. I am a fan of Apple. Google or Samsung or others is not on my radar.

The vid missed something: Vietnam is the only in ASEAN that is capable to reclaim lands on massive scale.

Yes, you are right, not a copy.
My guess baes on the Vietnam pact with Russia for license production of Kh35 missile. I think from turbo engines to turbofans is a small step. Same for other modifications. As for radar seeker, missiles use high-frequency pulse in cm or mm to illuminate the target in terminal phase.
I don’t know what radars VCM missiles have onboard, most probably many radars in combo.
