Vietnam Defense and News forum

The ship is said has a weight of 4,000+ tons. By definition it’s a destroyer. Vietnam frigates are of 2,000+ tons, corvettes 500+ tons. Different countries have different categories of warships. China, US destroyers have much more tonnage.

Vietnam only built 500 tons corvettes. It hasn't built 2000 tons class frigates before. Now Vietnam wants to build 4000 tons destroyers ? Besides tonnage, you also needs the proper tech for the engines, sensors such as ASEA and weapons systems such as VLS launcher. Can Vietnam build all such modern systems on the destroyer by itself ?

There is rumor we get tech transfer from the Russians. Without tech transfer then very difficult.

AESA radar by Viettel is ready and they are being installed on our A2-A5 500-ton corvettes. Initially, we wanted to do four-face AESA radar system on these corvettes, but had to scale down to one. VLS and medium range SAM by Viettel is a big question mark. Of course, we still have to import the marine diesel engines and helicopter.

Musk apparently lets Starlink routers and other devices to be made in Vietnam despite a US ban of making WiFi routers in overseas.
