I won’t deny that my view of Vietnam is limited either.

I am based in Thailand for several decades and can say with confidence their economy is not overly reliant on China or the West. Their governance system is not a perfect democracy but it works for them.

As I said they are experiencing stagnant growth for a couple of years due to political instability, high household debt, dated education system.

They are working towards finding a solution to this.

I won’t delve into macroeconomic indicators, but I encourage you to study it and you can conclude that they are pretty solid.

ah you are from Thailand, cool. can you add country flag into your profile? as for politic, I hope Thai generals let Shiwanatra return to power. Vietnamese people love her.
as for Thailand economy, ok my knowledge is limited. that’s true. my last visit to Bangkok was long ago. I remembered the traffic was terrible. there was a running joke. car drivers had a plastic bottle (in case they were stuck in traffic jam with no way out, but had to pee).

the Israeli tend to look down on the Vietnamese. 15y ago Vietnam sought to buy Israeli air defence system worth $100 million but they refused Vietnam offer, demanding more money. the Israeli believed the Vietnamese are poor, primitive, incapable so Vietnam would eventually agree.

After realising Vietnam began developing similar system Israel reduced to $60 million then $20 million. however Vietnam rejected. Vietnam made system was introduced 1 year later. lesson: arrogance never pays off.

UK looking to secure Vietnam port services for Royal Navy

The Ministry of Defense (MOD) has issued an early procurement notice outlining its intention to establish long-term port service support for Royal Navy vessels operating in and around Vietnam, the UK Defense Journal understands.

The timing comes as the Royal Navy continues to expand its presence across the Indo-Pacific. UK Carrier Strike Group 25, led by HMS Prince of Wales, is currently operating in the wider region.

The requirement covers the provision of husbandry and other port services, ensuring Royal Navy ships and other authorized vessels can access support during visits to Vietnamese ports. According to the notice, the estimated value of the contract is £1 million excluding VAT, or £1.2 million including VAT.

The planned contract would run from 31 October 2025 to 1 October 2029, a period of almost four years. It is classified under port operation services and will be tendered through an open procedure. The MOD confirmed that electronic submission of bids will be required, with English as the working language.

Tenderers will need to submit bids by 24 October 2025, with an award decision scheduled for 27 October. An electronic auction will be used as part of the process. The MOD has set the enquiry deadline for interested bidders at 1 October 2025.

The department also highlighted potential risks associated with the contract, specifically the risk of operational disruption to Royal Navy ships when operating in Vietnamese military ports. Payment terms will be in accordance with standard MOD terms and conditions, which will be detailed in the invitation to tender.

The tender notice has been published as a UK3 planned procurement notice under the Procurement Act 2023. By issuing the notice early, the MOD reduces the minimum tendering period to 10 days for an above-threshold contract once the linked UK4 tender notice is released.

good to know: in the new strategy paper of the Pentagon "AI understands the escalation", the hardliners prepare the future wars based on robots, AI and autonomous systems. Only launching nuclear weapons are still in human hands.
