(Saudi Arabia obtains the first armed version of the C-27J Spartan maritime patrol aircraft)

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia signed a contract to purchase 4 C-27J MPA (maritime patrol aircraft), becoming the first country in the world to obtain the new armed version of the C-27J Spartan maritime patrol aircraft, developed by the Italian company Leonardo.

This agreement represents an important strategic step for the Kingdom, as it enhances its capabilities in the field of maritime surveillance, coastal security, and protection of vital infrastructure, in light of the increasing regional security challenges.

My comment..

I'm not kidding, it's actually an amazing plane and the talk about it is long, so I was brief and did not go into detail about its other features, its superior capabilities, its armament, the accuracy of its aiming, and its targets, and these are the merits of Bin Saud's Munqiyat.

Japan strengthens its presence in the Middle East via the NEC LR 02T long-range radar

The Army Recognition website revealed that Japan participated for the first time with a national pavilion at the World Defense Exhibition 2026 in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, in a move that reflects Tokyo’s strategic direction to expand its defense exports and build industrial partnerships in the Middle East region.
According to the website, NEC Corporation emerged among the participating companies, which provided the NEC LR 02T long-range air defense radar. This system is designed for long-range operations and rapid deployment in remote or rapidly changing environments. Japanese officials and company representatives described this appearance as part of a broader effort to enhance defense cooperation with regional partners who invest heavily in integrated air and missile defense systems.

Features of the Japanese NEC LR 02T radar

According to the website, the NEC-LR-02T radar relies on three-dimensional active phased array antenna technology. The radar is designed to combine mobility, rapid installation, and long-range detection capabilities, so that the system can be transported on two medium-sized trucks or carried on a single cargo plane, and installed by a team of six technicians in only about 30 minutes.

The radar operates in the S-band, which is a common frequency for monitoring medium- and long-range aerial targets due to its balance between range performance and resistance to weather factors. The radar covers 360 degrees with a full horizontal field of view and an altitude of more than 20 degrees, and the declared detection range reaches 350 kilometers against a target the size of a fighter jet.

Capabilities of the Japanese NEC LR 02T radar

The website indicated that the cylindrical electronic antenna (e-SCAN) is distinguished by its ability to provide complete coverage without moving mechanical parts, which reduces wear and improves operational readiness. The specifications indicate a range accuracy of less than or equal to 0.5 nautical miles, an azimuth accuracy of less than or equal to 0.5 degrees, and an altitude accuracy of less than or equal to 2,500 feet for a target at a distance of 100 nautical miles.

The system integrates gallium nitride (GaN) power amplifiers and digital beam forming technologies, enabling improved radiation lobes management, precise amplitude control, and optimal power consumption. The system is designed to operate in harsh environmental conditions with temperatures ranging from -40 to +50 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of up to 95%.

Change in Japan's defense export doctrine

The website reported that the unveiling of the NEC-LR-02T in Riyadh comes within the framework of a gradual review of Japan's defense export doctrine, as defense equipment exports have historically been subject to strict restrictive principles since the post-war era, and recent years have witnessed gradual amendments that have expanded the categories of systems allowed to be sold, while maintaining a mandatory government licensing system.

This development reflects a more restrictive security environment in the Indo-Pacific region, and a political goal to maintain the national industrial base through overseas markets, and Japan's national pavilion at the exhibition for the first time represents a symbol of this strategic shift, indicating a coordinated and more visible promotion of Japan's defense industry capabilities abroad.
