Looks like there is some difficulty here in understanding moderation, as in the act of inspecting posts, suo moto or on receiving a complaint, by moderators.
The moment moderators are appointed and empowered, you may take it that the ability of members to police themselves is seen to be absent. Their judgement cannot be relied upon, somebody else has to judge their posts for them. After we reach this position, don't you think it wasteful of time to tell the moderators that the members are quite capable of saying only what they should? If what is defined with an elegant wave as 'banter' were permissible, there would be no need for moderators. If there is a need for moderators, the definition of 'banter' and its permissibility are both seen by the administration to be unreasonable. Why are we wasting time on this?

Doc, let the moderators, the full ones, and the administration work out things, and leave it to their good judgement. They were hard-working and sensible enough to set up this continuation platform, they were broad-minded enough to wipe the slate clean, and we must permit ourselves the airy-fairy notion that they listen, and see, and think.
How would we gauge their thinking without sitting in on any possible conversations they may be having among themselves, and assimilating their evolving thoughts?
