Beijing Houhai, before South-North water diversion came to Beijing, the water in Houhai was diarrhea brown muddy color.
I still remember one of the biggest puzzles for me as a child was how fish could still survive in this muddy, stinky and incredibly polluted water, for I could still catch some fish for fun in Houhai when I was a child.
Now crystal clear Houhai water. Houhai is located exactly at Beijing's city center close to the forbidden city and Tiananmen Sqaure.
