Bangladesh and India aren’t enemies that would require Bangladesh to arm its defence forces to create a deterrent against India.
The resources required would have debilitating impact on its tiny economy. Bangladesh surpassed Paksiatn on various fronts after its separation in 1971 due to its focus on economy and not a ghost enemy.
There are few differences between both the nations but not big enough to trigger an armed conflict.
Even the seemingly anti-India dispensation in Bangladesh knows this well and wouldn’t create mountain out of mole hill.
"Sources in the security establishment said the Indian Government had been informed of the development and added that the order from Bangladesh was for thousands of rounds of ammunition to be delivered in three tranches, starting September.
The order was placed just days after Hasina quit."

You would never hear of Pakistan telling Iran about it's ammunition purchase from china.
It's continuation of Hasina's policy of appeasing India and seeking a sort of no objection certificate before visiting china each time.
Bangladesh has a long way to get out of the indian hedgemony.
Bangladesh's real independence will follow after it has secured it's borders, it's economy, it's water from indian aggression. Getting more guns won't change anything if you have to ask permission each time you clean it. Even the the recent order of ammunition from Pakistan was first cleared with India. I wouldn't read too much into these recent attempts to look sovereign until Bangladesh can secure it's economy from indian sanctions.
Sheikh Hasina could not have survived so long without the support of the military.
When the military decided to withdraw its support, she fled.
So in other words, BD military was always in charge and kept itself weak. The real reason is that they are really fuckin dumb and lazy,
Theres only so much you can afford when all you do is manufacture underwear.
A) I agree.Yeah well, in that case Pakistan isn't really independent either. It's beholden to US and China.
I find this disturbing. who took permission from India? was it current interim government?
Why can't we talk about Bangladesh exploiting the huge economic potential it can gain by having outstanding trade ties with 1.4 billion market which is also the fastest growing gdp on the planet and soon to be economic super power.
India can triple Bangladesh gdp in a decade and half ..this id the potential Bangladesh has
Trying to challenge India military is nonsense India has twentyntimes their money and resources
Why would Bangladesh need a strong military? To counter whom? It is surrounded by India on three sides, and the fourth side is covered by the Indian Navy. Is there a significant threat perception that Bangladesh faces from India?
Bangladesh doesn't need a strong military to manage internal conflicts, or does it need massive military capabilities to pose a threat to India.
I’m not sure why, but it seems that some in Bangladesh are intent on creating an enemy out of India. This path isn't worth pursuing, as peaceful relations would benefit both nations far more than rivalry.
Challenge India on what? We don't have territory dispute or active security threat form India.
What we are trying to achieve is a modernized armed forces capable of maintaining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bangladesh. This is something any sovereign nation would do.
Yes, and we can't do anything to china either, its economy is half a dozen times bigger than us and are in a better position to fight. No neighbors can do anything to or against india because we have imported super American made weapon the Sig716. We are the best, you poor and pesky little neighbors.

Curious mind wants to know, does indians count China as a neighbor or not?
It's friendly to every other Islamic states except Pakistan. Even Afghans have a better relationship with India than Islamic bretheren Pakistan.Because we believe current Indian policitical stablishment is not friendly to Bangladesh as a Muslim majority country.
