No religious significance like cows... but these are now rare animals and hence protected....

No. These animals are protected under normal wild life regulations.
Only cows have religious significance for Hindus.
Gaurs are mostly found in
1. Southern India
2. Maharashtra
3. Central Indian Forests and
3. North East India

The laws concerning wildlife is quite strict here.. ppl joke that you can get away with murder but even a road kill of small wild animal will get you into big trouble
 
bhitarkanika crocodiles in India are probably the biggest salt water crocodile's in world & probably the biggest crocodiles of genus Crocodylus still Roaming this planet.

Mahishasura aka "The Demon" Is a notorious man eater salt water crocodile from bhitarkanika National Park. He was famously featured in " Monster quest" where his slide was measure by Romulus Whitaker. His SPL measurement is enormous putting him anywhere between 6-7 meters total length.

& this monster salti is not even in the top five by SPL in bhitarkanika
