Arunachal frontier highway provides a backbone for connectivity, enabling lateral movement that was previously impossible due to the lack of proper infrastructure. While it’s true that reinforcement from one point to another can thin out defenses elsewhere, the highway is not meant to replace forward radiating roads; it complements them. Base camps and forward posts rely on branch roads radiating out to critical points on the LAC, and the Frontier Highway ensures these radiating roads have a reliable logistical artery to connect to.
Second, this highway strengthens overall mobility and redundancy. In case of blockages or sabotage on any radiating road, the highway offers an alternative route for supplies, reinforcements, or withdrawals. This is particularly important in Arunachal’s rugged terrain, where landslides and weather disruptions are common.
Third, the highway significantly improves the ability to pre-position troops and supplies in forward areas. With a robust lateral road, military planners can deploy resources more flexibly during peacetime and redistribute them rapidly during crises.
Finally, this highway isn’t only about defense. It plays a crucial role in socio-economic development, connecting remote villages, fostering economic activity, and integrating border communities into the national mainstream. This reduces the vulnerability of the region to external influence or subversion, a critical factor in border security.
