World Bank places Pakistan in MENA, ending South Asia classification

I feel sad ill be completely honest, but IK that's where our future lies "for the time being", till our relationship with India is somewhat normalized.
Our nationhood is based on Indic Muslim nationalism but there's only so much you can do with that ideology given that Bangladesh (160m) is an Indian proxy and Indian Muslims (200m) themselves are oppressed so we (260m) have no other option but to change course and be more involved in the Middle Eastern affairs to survive/thrive as a nation

Just a sad situation for our region IG. F Modi and Hindu extremists.

South Asia is a colonial-era grouping, and Pakistan’s creation was a rejection of that imposed unity so its inclusion isn’t inevitable. Post independence no matter how hard our political and elite class tries to project Pakistan as somehow in the same boat as India, the fact is the Indians, Bengalis, Sri Lankans, and Nepalese have a lot more in common culturally, ethnically, politically, and even historically. I personally think we belong to our own unique region including Afghanistan and Kashmir. Instead of being strictly ‘South Asian,’ it may make more sense to view us as part of a wider zone that overlaps South Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia
 
MENAP is the most common way you will see Pakistan linked to the region. The IMF and World Bank frequently use the acronym MENAP, which stands for Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
  • Why group them? These organizations group Pakistan with MENA countries for "analytical purposes" because they often face similar economic challenges, such as oil price volatility, remittance flows from the Gulf, and shared geopolitical security risks.

How does an average Pakistani feel closer to someone for example from Tamil Nadu, Telangana, East & West Bengal? I'm sorry but I'aint that kinda South Asian. The only part of India Pakistanis can relate across the border is with East Punjab and that was divided systematically in 1947 and represents like 2% of India's entire population and 1.5% land

It does not bother me either way to be honest but I understand your sentiment.

Interestingly however, if you look at the theory of the super continent, the Indian plate broke off from the super continent and joined the Eurasian continent. When it crashed into the Eurasian continent, the part it hit where Pak is was where Gilgit-Baltistan and KP are. The Indian plate includes what is today in Sindh, Punjab and parts of Balochistan.

So technically speaking not all of Pak is part of the Indian plate, so the theory go's.
 
I suspect this is will trigger every national ethno religious cultural nutjob from Karachi to Karakorum.
 
Hindutva regime rabid hatred have no cure. They indulge in transnatonal terrorism from USA/Canada to Pakistan but cry rivers on Pakistan support to disputed region militants. A region where they opress and genocide kashmiri muslims and deny them right to chose as India founder Nehru promised and went UN for it. A region where 99.99% Indians have very little in common with even if one take out religion but they are hell bent on its illegal occupation.

In this scenario WB cannot work with Pakistan through south asian grouping as 80% of its basically just India.

Frankly speaking, I don't see how we are categorised as "Middle Eastern", and "MENAP" (MENA + Afg +Pak) is an oversimplification designed to ease the risk of bureaucratic overburden on the rather sensitive Anglo-American mindset. Pakistan remains "South Asian" and/or "Asian subcontinental" as its geolocational descriptor (folks have their own preference based on preferred post-colonial contextualisation).

BTW, since when was Turkiye regarding itself as a "Middle Eastern" nation? Is this some novel Anatolian pivot that you lot have been keeping quiet about?
