The USS George Washington is being deployed to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln, whose Middle East deployment has stretched for more than eight months amid reports of deteriorating morale and difficult conditions aboard the carrier.

Families of sailors aboard the USS Boxer say feminine hygiene products are running dangerously low and care packages are not reaching the crew. Relatives connected to the USS Abraham Lincoln, USS Tripoli and USS George H.W. Bush have separately reported shortages of food and soap, plumbing problems and delayed mail.

The Navy disputes some of the more severe allegations but acknowledges resupply difficulties. The complaints raise questions about whether America’s logistics network can sustain its expanding global deployments.
