Images show a drone intercepted by Yemeni army forces in the Raghwān area north of Mārib Governorate, launched by the Iran-backed Houthi group.
Visual inspection results and analyses of similar models conducted by experts from the "Defense Line" platform indicate that the drone's components and structural characteristics match the Iranian "Sayyad" drone, in Persian (پهپاد صیاد), which the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps transferred to the Houthi group, which has been operating it since early 2019 under the name "Sammad" with multiple attack and reconnaissance generations. The group claimed it was "locally manufactured."
It is likely a reconnaissance model of the "Sammad-1" type, which is the basic model documented with the IRGC Navy and in previous Houthi uses and interceptions.
In recent times, the Houthi group has intensified the use of these munitions in reconnaissance operations inside Yemen, in areas near confrontation lines, and also in Red Sea coastal regions. The "Defense Line" team has observed operations and interceptions of this aircraft during the recent Houthi escalation.
