Zelensky fears new Yalta at Russia-China-US summit
Oct. 27 2026

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned in comments published Wednesday that an expected meeting between Russian, US and Chinese leaders could offer a platform to redistribute influence, similar to what happened after World War II.

"We really don't want this to turn into 'Yalta 2, 3, 4', with a redistribution of influence," he said, referring to the 1945 summit of Soviet, US and British leaders on dividing up the post-World War II map.

The Kremlin has indicated that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US and Chinese counterparts, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping on the sidelines of an Asia-Pacific summit next month is under preparation.

"What China, Russia, and the United States might discuss has not yet been clearly defined today," Zelensky said in comments to journalists.

Russia has for years been seeking a comprehensive agreement with Washington on Europe's security architecture, and in particular an end to NATO's expansion near Russia's borders.

It casts its full-scale invasion of Ukraine as countering a threat posed by NATO -- a position widely rejected in Kyiv and the West, which says the invasion is an imperialistic land-grab by Putin.

"Russia wants this meeting more than anyone," Zelensky said, warning against handing Moscow "another major diplomatic advantage".

His comments came as Russia and Ukraine are due to meet next month with US envoys in the United Arab Emirates in a bid to revive talks towards ending Europe's worst conflict since World War II.

No date has yet been set for the Abu Dhabi meeting, but Zelensky said Ukraine wanted it to take place before the potential three-way talks between the Russian, US and Chinese leaders.

Zelensky also urged the United States to increase its supplies of Patriot air defence missiles, crucial to intercepting Russian attacks.

Ukraine had been receiving 12 a month from the United States this year, but has "to shoot down 150 ballistic missiles a month," Zelensky said.

Kyiv is also seeking a joint agreement to halt attacks on energy infrastructure ahead of winter and a maritime ceasefire to help safeguard its grain exports.

But Russia has rejected the idea of partial pauses in fighting before a final peace agreement has been reached.

China actually doesn't care much for the end of ukraine war. Russia being reliant on China and giving Chinese cheap energy and buying lots of chinese goods is beneficial for china.

If war ends, Europe might do economic warfare against China like the US did so for China they deep down prefer war to continue.

China prefers Iran to be strong and powerful so it can buy more chinese goods, have greater oil production and be a historic partner in the middle east where Shias will always be minorities.

Chinas not really a player in either conflicts just an observer. How Russia conducts itself after Putin is probably what China is concerned about the most

Asia for China
Europe to Russia
America(continent) to America

That’s how its being divided anyway.

In fact, China's long-term partner in the Middle East is Saudi Arabia.

China just does not want the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Iran to deteriorate force China to take sides.

As for Shia or Sunni, China actually doesn't care. In China's political judgment, the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran is a conflict between royal power and church power, and religious factions are just an excuse to cover up the real conflict.

To my knowledge, prior to the Khomeini Revolution in 1979, Iran and Saudi Arabia had very good relations, with the Iranian and Saudi royal families working closely together to oppose Nasserism.

Russia wants to end the war with Ukraine with a peace deal, have sanctions removed, allow Russia to rejoin the world community, and reduce its dependence on China.

And both the US and Europe want the war to end. Both the US and Europe have given Ukraine about $430 billion so far, and the best they can do is a stalemate. This is untenable for all parties.

Ukraine may not like it, but it isn't paying the bill so that it will accept the terms.

China has clearly rejected G2, so how could it possibly agree to G3? China will not agree to any proposal to divide the world, and China is not an imperialist country. Zelenskyy is thinking too much; this is not Yalta 2.0, it is communication aimed at ending the war.

Not true. The world can not go back to colonial era. Most countries in today's world have strong will of defending their sovereignty. They just don't accept a boss above their sovereignty.

Ukraine also wants the war to end, the issue for Ukraine is Russia needs to leave all Ukrainian territory, stop any future invasion. Russia demand is they want to annex Crimea, and the Donbass region, also future Ukraine will not join Nato or else war will restart. Currently it looks like Usa wants to end the war but Europe is pushing for war.

Europe and US need Russian oil and gas.
