If its a HGV test and if it is not announced, then we are looking at a major escalation on our eastern front. These tests and capabilities have always been used to strengthen and establish deterrence by our strategic planers. If the object of this test is not deterrence, it means we do not believe that even hypersonic systems would be able to successfully deter India. Therefore, the weapon system is relegated to operational use for which surprise is crucial.

Not necessarily.

Both India and Pakistan notify each other of ballistic missile tests [but not cruise] in advance [3 to 5 days I believe]. However, we do not disclose the type of ballistic missile or the reentry vehicle that is to be tested. So, the Indians in all likelihood are notified even if the test is not disclosed to the general public. Official announcements are made when desired parameters are achieved after multiple trials or/and there is a need for signaling. This was probably first or amongst the first of many tests to come. Once system is validated I am sure it would announced.

There is one interesting distinction between India and Pakistan missile testing. India sometimes publicly discloses a ballistic missile test as "unsuccessful" [not failure] if desired parameters are not [yet] met. Pakistan doesn't do that. It publicly announces once the desired parameters are met and system is largely validated.

I agree. However, dont you think deterrence holds more value in this environment where hostilities are more likely imminent then following protocols of announcement?

if it is, why didnt it happen before!

BTW, last night above near Wembely, I saw Northern lights (or similar)!

but this was'nt the first time, Northern lights can bee seen from London and this phenomenon was also observed last year!
