Turkish Air Force | News & Discussions

Romania is investing billions of USD to upgrade its airbases, primarily to accommodate fighters like the F35. If you factor in indirect expenses related to the F35 (or even F16s), you'll be stunned by the overall unit cost.

In Turkey, people traditionally give you a price tag that includes every expense/purchase you have to make for the product. It's much more honest if you ask me.
That's true, every acquisition came with multiple price tags for expansion of bases, ammunition purchases,etc...

Romania is soon a front line NATO state and the enemy is Russia
Which was the point k made earlier

If Turkey swears to use USA hadware only to protect NATO Europe and serve USA interests then fine you get F16 and F35

The second you want autonomy it's game over no USA hardware

Well, this goes the same for our F35s.....or Greek Rafales (3.4 billion for 18 jets vs 10.7 billion 20 jets for Turkey),etc...
Ours included weapons package and FOS.

KAAN has S routing air inlet duct to hide Engine comprassor blades from direct enemy radar signals .. also RAM coating on inner surface of duct

If We buy 40 more F-110 engines from the USA to add 20 KAAN to the inventory in 2029-2030 and when KIZILELMA also accompanied KAAN for the MUM-T concept even the entire French Air Force will not be able to cope with 20 KAAN + 40 KIZILELMA

Consider the Indian Air Force too

What a perfect production quality
We have extensive experience in airframe and parts production, gained through years of production of the F-35 fuselage , A400M forward center Fuselage with emergency exit Door, Ailerons and Spoilers , also Turkish Aerospace is the single source supplier to Airbus and Boeing for some aerostructures

Oh you mean this missile?

I mean Your RAFALE purchase does not provide you with any benefits

If We also include the Boeing E-7T AEWC and ASOJ-23A stand off jammer Aircraft in the game , then in a conflict , Greek RAFALEs can not cross the 25th meridian in the Aegean

SIPER Block-2 and S400 Air Defense Systems also will be in the game

The delivery of 12 Eurofighter aircraft to be purchased from Qatar to Turkey is planned for the first quarter of 2026. The aircraft have a maximum of 200 flight hours.

Considering that a standard aircraft has a lifespan of 10,000 hours, these aircraft are "like brand new."

Will they need any conversion work at BAe prior to delivery?

One question: If,let's say if,for some reason France actually insists on saying no and blocks the sale of Meteor to Turkey, will Turkey go on with the purchase? Months ago there was a lot of debate about whether France can or cannot block the sale.

The other night, some article popped up on my feed. It's from some ukrainian site:

Eurofighter Typhoon can show its full potential only with the Meteor missile, but Turkieye may face trouble getting it

Signing an unusually priced deal between Türkiye and the United Kingdom for 44 Eurofighter Typhoon fighters worth a total of $10.7 billion does not mean Ankara can now calmly expect to receive the aircraft. Every fighter needs weapons, and that is exactly where problems may arise.

Even though the overall contract includes $1 billion for armament, this is clearly not a firm weapons contract. At the same time, the UK can, of all its air-to-air missiles, only sell Turkiye the short-range ASRAAM, with a launch range of about 25 km.

For long-range armament, however, one must turn to MBDA, which is responsible for the Eurofighter's main air-to-air weapon the long-range Meteor missile.

It should be recalled that MBDA is a pan-European consortium; moreover, the conglomerates headquarters are in France, which is one of its member states. Therefore, approval from Paris is required for the sale or re-export of any armament.

Türkiye already has a very negative experience obtaining such green lights from European partners it spent three years negotiating with Germany to secure permission to buy the Eurofighter. For this reason, whether Turkish Eurofighters will be equipped with long-range weapons objectively depends on Paris.

Moreover, we must remember that the French decision will be made under pressure from both the UK and Türkiye, which will demand permission to supply Meteors, and from Greece, which has already strongly warned against selling these missiles to Türkiye.

At the same time, Paris has consistently supported Athens in disputes over maritime borders with Ankara, has competed with Türkiye in Syria, and has backed the Kurds. Personal relations between the presidents of France and Turkieye are also very strained, with public insults exchanged since 2019.

All this makes obtaining approval for Turkieye to purchase Meteor long-range air-to-air missiles a truly difficult task. Meanwhile, without them, the Turkish Air Force is immediately at a disadvantage, since Greek Rafales are armed with Meteors. The only option Turkiy can oppose Meteor with are older versions of the American AIM-120 missiles.
