The unit's Chinese nickname is "雁门天虎 (Pinyin:Yanmen Tianhu)".

@Deino Does this match your records?

Many days ago, there were related rumors on Chinese social media, but no one could provide any evidence.

This time, the news has been officially confirmed. That's why I'm sharing it.

Does that means china is retiring its J-10C jets?

Would be interesting to know if these are J-20A - and as such the first confirmed frontline unit flying this latest variant - or still J-20?

No!
This unit was previously equipped with J-10A fighter jets.
In recent years, China has been continuously retiring J-10A fighter jets.
We have not heard of any unit retiring J-10C fighter jets.
Great. Thanks. How many approximately J-10C does PLAAF have excluding J10A and J10B?

The video contains relevant content; you can examine it closely. My ability is insufficient to accurately identify them.

Normally, official agencies don't proactively release such information. This time, their official and separate announcement indicates its importance. Inferringly, this batch of J-20 fighter jets is likely the latest model.

There is no reliable and accurate data.
We typically estimate that the number of J-10Cs is close to 300.

Based on what I see, these are all regular J-20 and not the latest J-20A, but often they use old footage for such videos. Anyway, thanks a lot but one last question before I need to go to school: Yanmen Tianhu can be translated as what?

雁门(Pinyin:Yan Men)
It refers to Yanmen Pass, a famous ancient pass and fortress in China, located in Shanxi Province. The 43rd Air Force Brigade is also located in Shanxi Province.

天虎(Pinyin:Tian Hu)
The meaning is very simple: a tiger in the sky.

The simplest translation is to use pinyin directly: 雁门天虎 (Yanmen Tianhu).

By the way, do we have an idea where this video was taken?

No idea -.-

I found this: Allegedly, "Ayi cited the video and suggests it's Cangzhou, Hebei, judging via the background.Cangzhou is where GJ-11 was deployed years ago, so not a surprise." (via AndrewJ/SDF)
