I don’t understand Takaichi motives.
The PLA surpasses Japan military by miles. The Chinese have aircraft carriers, nuclear weapons, space station. What’s the point liking attack on Taiwan to attack on Japan?
That’s dumb.
US will never make such statement. the US may come or may not come to help. Nobody knows.
Makes no sense at all.

1) She is creating a contentious issue to increase support for and justify raising the defence spending.

2) Maintaining Taiwan's status quo is the most beneficial to Japan's interests, and she's trying to add unknown variables to China's calculations if China decides to invade Taiwan. The US might not intervene militarily for Taiwan, but if China does a preemptive strike on Japan, the US will have to get involved. So she's raising the stakes and playing a game of bluff.

Anyway, realistically nothing will happen out of this.

Maybe lesser Chinese tourists will visit Japan now, but that would be good for other tourists from other countries. I travel to Japan multiple times a year, and I'm lowkey hoping lesser Chinese tourists will visit Japan so that I can enjoy lesser crowd and cheaper accommodation lol.

As a defeated state of WW2, according to UN's enemy clause, if japan want to deploy nukes, they will get nukes delievered by other countries pretty soon. And even if they want to build nukes, they dont have deliver vehicles.

Even China, the largest industrial powers in human history, cannot build lots of nukes and delivery vehicles over night.

The world have always keep a very close eyes over senstive materials and equipments that lead to nuclear weapons.

And no, you cannot build nuke weapons with nuke waste from comerical reactors.

It has a history of using excuse like existential threat to national survival to start war. Similar to the Nazi used of lebensraum.

Do the Japanese honestly believe that the resumption of the Chinese civil war in Taiwan is an existential threat to itself? Past history and logic doesn't seem to support that, and I don't think it fool anyone.

Don't they see that everytimes in the past, it all begin with short initial success, and then after would begin a strings of failure one after another with increasing disaster, especially the Imperial Japanese Navy in the Pacific war, how did they somehow still able to find the confident?

They hope a new war over Taiwan would cause setbacks to the rise of China. China wants to start the war at the best moment. They want to make sure China prematurely starts it. They will stoke up the war much like how they did it in Ukraine.

It's not the inability of of Japanese gov to tell the true history of WW II, but their gov's desire and intended goal to hide the real atrocities committed by the Japanese to their population esp young generations so Japan can become a respected normal country again. Japanese PM's position on Taiwan can be considered that Japan has just declared war on China if there is conflict between mainland and Taiwan in the strait. Yeah, China is right to cut off the dirty Japanese head sticking in Chinese affairs. Even the US doesn't take such blatant aggression on Chinese Taiwan affairs. I think she and the Japanese gov want to drag in US to a direct confrontation with China over Taiwan now so Japan can remilitarize quickly and maybe want to arm with nukes too.
