Afghanistan's economy Updates

What is this something else ? Using shared ethnic and religious links to build a relationship based on cooperation and benefit ? Building trust to overcome the bad blood of the past ? Moving on from war and conflict ? You need civilians for that.

Or is it that now Taliban will be replaced by some other bloodthirsty gang who will come to power with Pakistan's help and then tell same Pakistan to get lost ? We have seen that movie before many times, thanks to inept Faujis.

A wise elder told me about 25 years ago "When there is peace in Afghanistan, then there will be peace in Pakistan and vice versa". How true his words have proven.
Nobody buys this argument any more.

Also, that wise gentleman was no sage. It goes to logic that when there is peace near one's borders, there will be peace within. However, for as long as Afghans have eyes on KP/Durand Line, that is not changing, ever! The only thing that will make Afghanistan happy is for Pakistan to cede its claim on KP/FATA.

The issue is Afghanistan's perpetual insecurity and counting on fifth columnists (like PTM) within Pakistan, who are the first to stand up for them regardless of the Taliban's murderous mayhem inside of Pakistan (which is a case of ethnicity trumping nationhood). Their suggestions are always the same old dead-ends i.e. talk to them, open up trade crossings, let them stay etc. Every single one of those options has failed and it did not matter whether it was civilians or the military pushing that. So this nonsensical "You need civilians for that" requirement does not pass muster. This enmity started with the founding of Pakistan under a civilian dispensation under Quaid-e-Azam's leadership that Afghanistan refused to recognize. Let's not be oblivious to the history.

Last, if you claim that faujis are inept, then the leaders of KP/FATA and those on the Afghan side are all absolutely clueless nincompoops because they clearly have also failed at arriving at peace despite countless jirgas/peace initiatives.

Pakistan has nothing to gain from fighting a war with Afghanistan. Pakistan has NO claims on Afghanistan or its territory. The other side thinks differently thus BLA/TTP exist.

This issue will not hit Afghanistan alone. It will have repercussions for Pakistan as well.

Let me give you an example.

Pakistan imports millions of dollars worth of gemstones from Afghanistan (Tourmalines, Emeralds, Peridots etc) which is then cut, polished in Peshawar (Namak Mandi) and workshops in Karachi, then exported to markets in China, Hong Kong, Germany, Thailand, USA etc. When the raw material sourcing dries up then value add and re export will remain a pipe dream.

Suffice to say Pakistan imports these gemstones through grey channels without paying any duties and the goods cut/polished are exported with gross under invoicing losing Pakistan precious foreign currency.
What is the total value of these ?

We have some real mard kei bachay in our govt/establishment who are sometimes doing stupid stuff like 27th amendment but then also know how to teach afghandus and jeets a lesson.

The reality of Afghandoos.

Muttaqi: Afghanistan Has No Representation in Global Meetings
View attachment 160397
At the fifth coordination meeting between United Nations agencies and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, foreign minister, criticized the international community's approach, stating that humanitarian issues should not be linked to political matters.

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan also criticized what he described as the exclusion of the Islamic Emirate’s representatives from global forums.

Amir Khan Muttaqi said: “Their central offices are in Geneva, Austria, and other countries. Other nations have permanent representatives there and attend their meetings. Despite Afghanistan needing humanitarian assistance more than many other countries, it still has no representation in these agencies.”

In part of his remarks, without naming any country, Muttaqi stated that certain nations are mistreating Afghan refugees for political reasons.

He added: “It is inhumane behavior by some countries that, during harsh winters, they force refugees to leave their homes and then shut the doors on them.”

Muttaqi reiterated support for UN agencies operating in Afghanistan and emphasized that the opportunity to deliver humanitarian aid is available throughout the country. He further urged that the focus should shift to infrastructure and economic development.

Azerakhsh Hafizi, an economic affairs expert, stated: “Humanitarian aid is crucial for Afghanistan, but efforts must also be made to attract investment, support infrastructure development, and engage in sustainable projects like mining.”

Earlier, Afghanistan’s National Environmental Protection Agency had also criticized the lack of an Afghan delegation at the global climate summit (COP30).

The Afghandoos are begging the world for recognition. They wonder why the world doesn't recognise them.
There are reasons that Afghanistan is not part of the global meetings. If the Taliban set those conditions right, they will be granted entry.

Border crossings???

Pakistan should even say that any trade ship that is used for exports or imports with Afghanistan wouldn't be allowed to use Pakistani waters in the ocean

Shut down that bullsh!t Allama Iqbal scholarship for Afghan students too while we are at it

I have not yet seen the following video, but normally his analysis tends to be spot on :

What is the total value of these ?
Tourmalines (blue more precious than green) fetch for $200 per carat, the good quality ones.

Peridots from $10-$100 per carat.

Panjsher Emeralds, being precious range from $200-10,000 per carat.

Total would be a guesstimate. I would guess 500 million dollars in grey income for Pakistanis. Officially its 1/10 of that.

These stones are mostly smuggled from Afghanistan into Pakistan. They are cut and polished, then exported to different markets around the world. Mostly formally exported but at gross under invoicing (less than 10% of the original amount) for which the authorities do very little. Hence Pakistan loses out on foreign currency.

reduce it by 1/20 and you reach closer to the original value.

So, why are the Taliban not setting those conditions? Explain to us. It is easy as you claim.

Maybe a trip to Namak Mandi and you will get an idea.

Just pointing the fact that in a trade embargo both parties suffer.

Not to say Pakistan should not go after Taliban, TTP and its affiliates.

I have been there plenty of times. while true both parties suffer, this loss is not of such a value that it would make any difference for us.
