HAL LCA Tejas: Updates, News & Discussions

The first aircraft was inducted into the air force in January 2015.

With 30+ aircraft in service, have any of them been overhauled to date?

the pilot didnt survive unfortunately.

by the way , Indian commentators are already lambasting GE engine.

The engine is the most proven and reliable and best thing in the entire jet !!!! Crazy..

The integration with the engine may be the issue(ie HAL/DRDO design flaw/issue maybe), but that engine is absolutely a solid engine.

I was always skeptical about the high percentage of composites in it's airframe....would you fly in an aircraft made from structures baked in an autoclave by indians? I think over time the airframes will show structural fatigue issues. And this is the second aircraft built apparently? So one of the oldest.

I'm not sure if this is the right time to discuss this, however.

I have a feeling that incidents like this will reinforce the US point of view that India should first acquire a US 4.5 Gen Jet and develop its capabilities before moving on to the F-35, instead of pursuing the F-35 directly. If that happens, we can expect a cut in the Tejas order (especially the second one).
