They claim ...

Indian Air Force Test Pilot School is considered the fifth such institution in the world. For overall air force power, the Indian Air Force (IAF) was ranked third globally in 2025 by the World Directory of Modern Military Aircraft (WDMMA), a position it earned by surpassing China.
  • Test Pilot School: The Indian Air Force Test Pilot School is a specialized training facility for flight test personnel and is one of only five such institutions globally, according to Wikipedia.
  • Overall Air Force Ranking: The IAF's overall strength was ranked third in the world by the WDMMA in 2025, making it more powerful than China's air force, which was ranked fourth, note Newsweek, Dhyeya IAS, and Medium.

Sorry, these rankings are BS. Going simply by combat record and safety record, I would not put IAF anywhere near most modern air forces.

I can predict the next few weeks.

HAL blames US Engines
UAE finds fault with IAF pilot
IAF denounce this and attack UAE
UAE takes no shit, bans Tejas from further displays
Someone in India says "Boycott Dubai" and is quietly told to pipedown.

Like last "Terror" attack in Red Fort, Modi will make sure media cycle moves on, Tejas continues to be like a patient in ICU, braindead and on life support but being kept alive for no reason.......

@Raj-Hindustani

The safety record is questionable.
There was the horrific AN-12. crash in Chandigarh in 1968 which killed 98 people.
The most intriguing was the crash of the Indian Air Force Tu-124K aircraft on November 4, 1977, carrying Indian Prime Minister Morarji Desai who survived the plane crash.
The plane, which was attempting to land at a runway in the Indian State of Assam , crashed in a field short of the runway, killing all five crew members but leaving Desai and 16 other passengers with minor injuries.
The crash is classified as a controlled flight into terrain (CFIT) and is one of the most significant CFIT events in India's aviation history.

Now..., lets talk reality.

Who to blame?

1. Pilot Error
2. Jet

If India/HAL are to ever attempt to market this Jet to a Foreign Customer - they need to rule out Option 2.

In such a case, sadly, the Pilot will be a/the scapegoat - and since the dead can't defend themselves, the Families opinion doesn't matter.

That being said, if GoI/IAF/HAL take that route of blaming it on Pilot Error to protect their...ehh...homegrown product, then there shouldn't be double standards regarding the Air India crash earlier this year.

It is clear as day as per the Report that it was the fault of the Captain (Pilot in Command), but no one in India wants to buy that narrative.

But in all honesty, it does NOT surprise me about Indians.

Side by Side comparison of what the pilot was trying to perform

Seems pilot came too low not enough space to pull....But Teja has ongoing issue of weight and engine thrust ratio.

According to Indian members everything is fine. Yet, the entire world says that Indian pilots aren't trained properly.
