DefenseWeb reported on April 15, 2025 that Egypt is in the final stages of negotiations with South Korea to purchase up to 100 FA-50 Fighting Eagle light attack aircraft. The proposed deal, which includes technology transfer and production of the majority of the aircraft locally in Egypt, aims to modernize the Egyptian Air Force and expand the country's defense industrial base. This plan also reflects the strengthening of the growing strategic cooperation between Cairo and Seoul, especially in light of the celebrations of the thirtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In this context, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received his South Korean counterpart Lee Jae-myung yesterday (November 20, 2025) on his first visit to Egypt since taking office. The official reception ceremony included a display of the honor guard, the playing of the national anthem, and taking a memorial photo of the two presidents and their wives, followed by a closed consultation session, followed by an expanded meeting with the participation of the delegations of the two countries.

During the meeting, President Sisi expressed his aspiration to enhance aspects of cooperation between Egypt and South Korea in various fields, especially the defense, educational and investment industries. For his part, the South Korean President stressed his country's keenness to expand defense cooperation with Egypt, which currently includes joint production of K-9 self-propelled guns, and plans to include the FA-50 advanced training and light combat aircraft, in addition to the Chungyong/TAipers anti-tank missile, in a step that reflects the desire of both parties to develop Egyptian defense industries and transfer advanced technology to them.

On March 23, 2025, the Egyptian Ambassador to South Korea, Khaled Abdel Rahman, stated in an interview with Yonhap News Agency that Cairo was about to sign a contract with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI). According to a DefenceWeb report, the agreement includes up to 100 FA-50 aircraft, with deliveries to begin with an initial batch of 36 units worth approximately $1 billion. About 70 aircraft are expected to be assembled locally at the Helwan Industrial Facility, according to a 2023 agreement between KAI and the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI), an Egyptian state defense corporation. The FA-50 features approximately 70% component sharing with the F-16 and is intended to replace the older Alpha Jets and K-8Es used in training.

Personally if you ask me we should convert the old alphajets and albatross trainers into attack drones, the same can be done for the older k8’s, but the later models should still be used for training. I also hope we get those j10s very soon so we can start procuring j35s. Saudi is getting watered down f-35s which tbh I have zero clue why they’d shoot themselves in the foot like that, and Algeria has taken delivery of 2 su57s, oh and Pakistan is scheduled for j35s as well. We’re behind the fifth gen race atp and need to get on that race asap, Egypt partnering up with turkey on their kaan project is amazing and I hope that beastly bird starts flying in a few years, but now is the time to secure valuable fifth gen assets to have them just in case.

You need the most advanced trainers to prepare for getting the 5th generation fighters..Egypt's military know what it is doing..

Saudi Arabia never gets watered down anything so it won't be the case with the F-35 US standard

Algeria receiving the SU-57 will also accelerate Morocco getting the F-35

There are 218 F16s in Egypt now, that say otherwise with only the very recent recent ones have a proper BVR capability.

Articles have literally came out saying they’re not going to be as sophisticated as the Israeli ones

Not like the Israeli ones for sure.. because Israel has the limited privilege to put some own systems and weapons on it..KSA will get its own version too like the F-15 SA based on the US F-35 standard.. not inferior to Israeli ones by any means..

Are you confusing KSA with Egypt Bro?

Fifth generation fighters: a strategic necessity to enhance Egyptian security

Modern air platforms have become "aircraft command centers" that manage operations efficiently using artificial intelligence. This qualitative leap requires decision-makers to realize that the acquisition of fifth-generation fighters is a strategic necessity to ensure Egyptian air superiority in a region witnessing continuous escalation. The Air Challenge:

The Importance of Situational Awareness
With the proliferation of stealth platforms (such as the F-35), reliance on fourth generation became insufficient to ensure Egyptian air dominance. Fifth generation superiority is based on "situational awareness", going beyond radar stealth to integrate and analyze data from multiple sources, enabling the pilot to make critical decisions and achieve combat initiative before the opponent discovers him.

Western restrictions and the trend towards strategic alternatives

Strict Western restrictions, such as suspending the deal to sell F-15 fighters to Egypt to ensure Israeli qualitative superiority (QME), prompted a strategy of "strategic diversification" and breaking the technological monopoly.

Chinese stealth fighter J-35

China stands out as a strong option with the J-35 fighter, which offers stealth and precision striking. Its acquisition constitutes a clear geopolitical message about the decline of traditional hegemony, especially after the increasing acceptance of Eastern technology during recent joint exercises.

Industrial Partnership and Digital Sovereignty

Cooperation with Turkey (KAAN, free from ITAR restrictions) and South Korea (KF-21, with the Israeli Components Challenge) represents a strategic option that combines advanced technology with domestic manufacturing opportunities. But the fundamental challenge is to secure "digital sovereignty", that is, access to the "source code" of the integrated software system, which favors partners who show higher flexibility in technology transfer compared to closed Western systems.

1764120295544.jpeg

Achieving strategic independence requires adopting critical options (such as the J-35 or KAAN) without delay, as laxity weakens the regional position for decades.

In short: Possessing technology is the starting point, but localizing industry and developing national cadres is the surest guarantee of immunity against external pressures.

They became its second largest operator after the manufacturer, and arrived with one of the most advanced warplanes of the 4++ generation..#France delivered Rafale copies to #Egypt

Three new Rafale F3-R arrives and exits the factory

It is part of an additional deal they signed in 2021 for 30 aircraft and placed a model of them with a Meteor missile!

The Rafale F3R represents the current operational standard for the fighter and was qualified by the French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) on 31 October 2018, and approved for full operational use on 8 March 2021 by the French Chiefs of Staff of the Navy, Air and Space Forces.

This version witnessed the introduction of many notable technical improvements, including:

  • Thales RBE2 AESA radar with active electron scanning array.
  • MBDA Meteor long-range air-to-air missiles.
  • TALIOS electro-optical system for high-precision targeting and tracking of moving targets.
  • Integration of the laser-guided version of the Safran AASM Hammer smart bomb.
  • Development of the Spectra electronic warfare system
  • Adding an automatic collision avoidance system with the ground.
  • Improvements in resistance to interference with GPS systems.
  • Accelerating the decision-making cycle thanks to faster electronic systems.
  • Developing a fault diagnosis system for maintenance.
  • Improving air refueling capabilities via the NARANG unit, approved for refueling operations from A400M transport aircraft or via Buddy Refueling between fighters.

The aircraft's systems operate via a modular electronic architecture that allows real-time fusion of data from radar, optical sensors and electronic warfare systems. The cockpit includes:

  • Large head-up display (HUD).
  • Multiple color displays.
  • HOTAS control system integrated with night vision helmet.

Armament of the Rafale F3R fighter:

  • Air-to-air: Long-range Meteor and MICA IR/EM missiles for medium combat.
  • Air-to-ground: Long-range SCALP/Storm Shadow missiles, AASM Hammer guided bombs, and GBU laser bombs.
  • Anti-ship: AM39 Exocet missiles.
  • Internal gun: GIAT 30M791, 30 mm caliber, firing rate of 2,500 rounds per minute.
  • Reconnaissance: AREOS high-resolution imaging system.

By 2026, Egypt will operate the largest fleet of Rafale fighters outside France, all in the F3R standard, with future alignment towards the F4 standard starting in France in 2022.

To build an indigenous fighter from scratch is an arduous task, and it may take up to 1-2 decades.

Egypt needs winning time for its national security.

If the US is getting too biased for Israel, Egypt may use its geopolitical leverage to acquire advanced fighters and other weapons from China.
turkey 85 milion people country start develop in 2010 5 gn fightet jet why not egypt? israel is too small to develp 5 gn or 6 gn fighter alone alsso the engine is very expensive to develop
