ISLAMABAD: In one of the most consequential structural reforms in Pakistan’s military hierarchy, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is likely to assume the unified title of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) alongside his position as Chief of Army Staff (COAS), following the enforcement of the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill 2025.

The new designation, effective immediately after the notification issued by the government, will appear in all official documents, military communications, and media references.

President Asif Ali Zardari had assented to the Army, Air Force and Navy Amendment Bills on November 15 after their parliamentary approval, paving the way for redefining command arrangements in the armed forces.

Under the amended law, the COAS will concurrently serve as the Chief of Defence Forces for a five-year term, with Field Marshal Munir’s tenure restarting from the date of the new notification.

We know only one Hilal e Jurrat, before that all of his medals are routine ordinary service medals.

How our Honorable and Most Powerful Field Marshal keep getting Medals ?????
With no achievements or any special Operational Decoration during all of his service, But suddenly His Medal Bars/strips just keep multyplying.

Can any Intelligent person shed some light on it? After becoming FM, I am seeing atleast 7 new medals for him.

President appoints Field Marshal Munir as country’s first chief of defence forces

President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday signed off on the summary to appoint Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir as the country’s first chief of defence forces (CDF).

A press release from the presidency said he also signed off on the two-year extension in the tenure of Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu and extended his best wishes to the two for their successful tenures.

Earlier in the evening, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sent a summary to President Asif Ali Zardari recommending the appointment of Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir as CDF.

The CDF position, created under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, will replace the now-abolished office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) chairman, which formally ended on November 27. It would be a dual-hatted position combined with the office of the army chief.

The prime minister today approved the summary for the appointment of Field Marshal Munir “as the chief of army staff and the chief of defence forces”, and then referred it to the President House, said a press release by the PM Office (PMO).

Field Marshal Munir’s appointment for both roles is for a period of five years, the statement said.
