Some were lost during the war (6 confirmed by footage).

BMP-3 has good firepower but bad protection, nothing new. The logical thing is to replace both BMP-3 and BTR-82A with Turkish armored vehicles (there are several options: Otokar, FNSS, BMC). Speaking of BTR-82A, there were 25 documented losses.

It's a good platform to use as fire support,since it has the 100mm gun,a 30mm autocannon and 3 MGs but nothing else. Like you said,bad protection. The Greek Cypriots have 43 of them and back in the mid-2000s and until the economic crisis,we were supposed to buy 450 of them from Russia. Back then,I was excited I thought it was a pretty good IFV. But the armor,ammo storage,the way the soldiers exit,the whole design is typical Soviet.

I agree,it makes sense to replace them with new IFVs and put the BMP-3 and BTR-82A in secondary or reserve units maybe.
 
Slovak president says Azerbaijan has "reaffirmed its intention to buy automatic artillery systems" from Slovakia, most likely referring to EVA M2 self-propelled howitzer and AM120 self-propelled mortar.

“The defense industry is a very important sector, and we are already developing cooperation in this field. We do not intend simply to sell weapons to Azerbaijan. As you know, this sector is highly developed in Slovakia. We also have extensive experience in self-propelled artillery systems, ammunition, and other products. We can work with Azerbaijan on technology transfer, the use of Azerbaijani financial resources, and joint production, and we can sell jointly manufactured products to third countries.

I am pleased that during the visit of our Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Mr. Kaliňák, the Azerbaijani side expressed its interest in purchasing automatic artillery systems and has now reaffirmed its intention. I am sure that these types of weapons will further strengthen the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.”

Azerbaijan will only be buying the turret with mortar and integrate it into a different chassis with a different FCS solution.

“Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák confirmed to Denník N that the first foreign sale of the AM 120 system is imminent. According to him, Azerbaijan would only order a turret with a mortar. "They plan to integrate the chassis and fire control systems themselves from Azerbaijani defense industry enterprises,"Denník N quotes Kaliňák.

The 120 mm caliber AM 120 self-propelled mortar from ZTS Špeciál premiered in Bratislava in May 2024. In May 2025 , a new version was presented in Brno with a smaller turret , a redesigned ammunition feeding system, and a reduced supply of grenades from 60 to 35.

A smaller turret can be mounted on a wider range of chassis, including 4×4. Azerbaijan chose this one. The price of one turret is less than a million euros. The purchase of 90 turrets would therefore be a great export success for the Slovak arms industry.”

It will be the smaller turret that were shown earlier this year.

Czechoslovaks make quality stuff,it would be a good purchase I guess.
 
Phase 2 will have compherensive avionics upgrade with new cockpit, mission computer etc and full integration of munitions, including Azerbaijan specific variant of SOM cruise missile named "SOM Şahin”.
