Ironically the other parts of the congresswoman’s interview point out the real method that can defeat Maduro, without destabilizing the region; near shoring.

Building up an economic zone of prosperity around Venezuela and shutting it out unless it comes to terms with the potential prospects for growth is best for the region and especially the US. Winning without fighting is the best form of warfare as Sun Tzu taught.

There are just influential voices, especially in south Florida, that want this war to break the support that Cuba gets from Venezuela. They want to change the government in Cuba within their lifetimes I suspect.

Meant to come back to this yesterday. Regardless of your like / dislike of the current administration, US foreign policy has been inconsistent for many years. Too many instances of yesterday's foe being today's friend, today's friend may become tomorrow's foe.

Depends on which party is in charge and what the underlying objectives are. And those are subject to change.

Not really. US foreign policy has been really consistent until Trump administration came into the picture. It's still being held together by more traditional figures of his administration.

Trump was bluffing about Venezuela. They said strikes were imminent a week ago. Nothing has happened.

The collective US government is probably not willing to take the risk as China/Russia will see some opportunity in it. Not necessarily to bog us down but to take more risk posture in other arenas.

This is all to install a pro Israel evangelical Christians in south America

Average American won't reap any benefits. Israel and Jewish-Americans will make tons of money.

Young American men should be prepared to revolt in future if resources and wealth doesn't get trickled down to them

Three U.S. officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the operation was led by the U.S. Coast Guard. They did not name the tanker, which country's flag it was flying or exactly where the interdiction took place.

British maritime risk management group Vanguard said the tanker Skipper was believed to have been seized off Venezuela early on Wednesday. The U.S. has imposed sanctions on the tanker for what Washington said was involvement in Iranian oil trading when it was called the Adisa.

Asked what would happen to the oil on the seized oil tanker near the coast of Venezuela, President Trump said: “Well, we keep it, I guess.” Venezuela is believed to have roughly 17 percent of the world’s known oil reserves, and its president, Nicolás Maduro, has accused the United States of trying to seize his country’s oil reserves through military force.

The tanker seized near Venezuela by the United States is named Skipper and was carrying a false flag of nationality, according to a U.S. official with knowledge of the seizure. It was seized because of its past links to smuggling illicit Iranian oil, not because of ties to the Maduro regime, although it was carrying Venezuelan oil.

Can US legally seize a oil tanker in international water?

Can US legally seize a oil tanker in international water?
Its illegal. If anyone else does it they will be declared a terrorists and trouble makers. I guess might is right.

It’s a US sanctioned tanker and a search warrant was executed by the FBI, Homeland Security and the US Coast Guard.

So US internal institutions give search warrant to seized a Tanker belongs to a sovereign country in international water, where US jurisdiction doesn't exists ? Its like saying Chinese version of FBI issue a search warrant for a Taiwan Tanker, so they seized it in international waters using force, like Really?
