Loll you're right, only high quality comes from Gina.
Harley-Davidson needs to give up.
Do you dumb have reading or comprehension problem ? Where did I ever say high quality comes only from China ? I said if they want higher quality Chinese motorcycles, Africans have to pay more. Now go back to your cave.

Even high quality produced in india, but you produce, based on the market - Africans are preferring indian brand's, based on their requirements and realibilies

@ety

If Africans want higher end Chinese brands motorcycles, they have to pay for them, that simple.

That is correct. But Asia and Africa have large number of customers with low purchasing power and Indian 2 wheeler makers need to carve out a niche there.

Key Summary Points

Indian motorcycles dominate African markets over Chinese and American brands, especially in commuter and commercial segments.

Better quality than Chinese bikes: Indian brands (Bajaj, TVS, Hero) are seen as more durable, reliable, and better engineered for rough African roads. Chinese bikes are often cheaper upfront but fail faster.

Lower total cost of ownership: Indian bikes offer good mileage, fewer breakdowns, and affordable spare parts, making them economical for daily use (especially bike taxis like boda boda).

Strong after-sales support: Wide service networks and easy availability of parts give Indian brands a major edge.

Local job creation: Indian companies set up assembly plants, dealerships, service centers, and supply chains, creating local employment instead of only exporting finished bikes.

Skill transfer & ecosystem building: Training of local mechanics, technicians, and sales staff helps build long-term industrial capability.

American bikes not suitable: US motorcycles are expensive, heavy, and impractical for African use cases.

Result: Africans increasingly trust Indian brands for value, quality, and economic contribution, leading to long-term market leadership.
Motorcycles are a niche product in China. Motorcycles are prohibited in most urban areas across China, and also on most highways. A license plate that allows a motorcycle to operate in the core urban areas is more expensive than a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Currently, only a very small number of motorcycle manufacturers still produce motorcycles in China. Most of their motorcycles are exported to other countries. However, many Chinese companies provide core component manufacturing services for foreign motorcycle manufacturers, especially for motorcycle engines. These engines are even used by some countries to manufacture UAVs.

At present, most state-owned motorcycle manufacturers have completely withdrawn from the motorcycle market, and only a very small number of private enterprises are still operating in the motorcycle industry.

According to statistics from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, there are currently only 120 motorcycle manufacturers remaining in China. Market sales are mainly concentrated among a very small number of leading companies.
With the impetus of national policies, the market for gasoline-powered motorcycles will further shrink in the future, until they are completely phased out of the market.

@Michael Saar

Can you request your govt to shut down your bike manufacturers who are exporting too, Saar, so that the USD 14 billion export market you are catering to can be captured by us, Saar.

Regards

These useless comparison threads should not be attempted. China is way ahead of India in manufacturing (and many other sectors) and that's a fact.

1. In present-day China, very few people buy bicycles. Only a small number of people buy professional bicycles for sports. Shared bicycles are very popular in China, so we don't need to buy them.
2. Electric bicycles. Recently, the government introduced new technical specifications, further restricting the development of this industry. Currently, this issue is quite controversial, with a lot of heated discussion on Chinese social media.

=========================================

In recent years, the Chinese government, through regulations and government guidance measures, has shifted many low- and mid-end industries to neighboring countries. However, certain core elements remain under China's control.

Due to the Indian government's severe lack of business credibility, many Chinese supply chain operations in India are carefully hidden and disguised. This also includes the motorcycle industry. Before you express strong national pride, you should first check the China-India trade data.
Your government and media will not tell you about these hidden circumstances.

Supply and demand.

Africa has the demand for cheap transportation, and it will be fulfilled, one way or another, by someone ready to take advantage of itm be it India, or China, or someone else.

Very simple, really.

China's motorcycle exports are 5 times that of India.

India only has an advantage in the African market, while China has an advantage in the market in-income countries.

If Chinese motorcycles are cheap and inferior goods, then why does China occupy the market in high-income countries instead of the African market?

Or do you think the Africans value quality more than price?

Motorcycle driving is largely banned in Chinese cities, so there are no really strong domestic motorcycle manufacturers.

But even industries that China has given up on are not that countries like India can challenge.

No one asking and saying about status in china

This is just a business - india is doing well because they able to produce the realible product even the cost is low.

What you are saying - just are excuses and fact is that china unable to provide them as per the demand with reliable products... That's the reason - failing in African market
