Gunman opens fire at crowded Australia beach, people rush for shelter

Horrific incident.
Complete disregard for human life.
Very troubling that father-son duo were Pakistani origin
Sajid Akram, Naveed Akram are typically, Pakistani names.
It is bad and unfortunate event and bad and unfortunate for Pakistani and Muslim community.

So, more on the shooter and his family.

The Akrams, Sajid Akram, 50, is the father, deceased, with his son, Naveed, 24, is still in the Hospital under Police Guard. ASIO said Naveed Akram was under investigation after a planned 2019 ISIS attack in Australia. He works as a brick layer, before his company (not sure if he owns it, or he just works in it) went bankrupt in 2024. Naveed was active in the Cabramatta area Naveed was Australian-born

Sajid Akram owns 6 weapons, is a Class A firearms license holder, he owns a fruit stall in Bonnyrigg or Campsie. No Police history on him other than his firearms license application. Came to Australia with a student visa in 1998, transitioned into a Partner Visa in 2001, and had been on a Resident Return Visa 3 times since.

The mother of the household is Verena Akram. The Akram family lives with Verena's Mother, and Naveed's brother and sister, 22 and 20.

How would Pak take responsiblity if the father and son was refuge or Aus passport holder. No vistor can get licence for firearms in Aus. Pak is not responisble for vetting or there crimes. Aus give them resdency. Aus laws will be applied on them not Pak.

I have no time, nor mood to turn it into political dick measure. And mod should really ban this type of talk as it didn't help both Australian and Muslim and cetrainly not Muslim Australian @Waz @Musings

By the way, I said what I know from people I know and public sources. If you don't like it, you don't need to hear it, you can just move on. As I said, I will not judge the motive of this attack before more public information comes to the public, and neither should you.

What? Who cares about your mood? Why are you blaming Pakistanis?

Do you think that Ahmed Al Ahmed knew that the people he was defending from these shooters were Jews, even Zionists? (He was, after all, approaching the first shooter from behind.) And if he did, would that have made a difference?

Regardless, don't you think that will be his defense if criticized as a "Zionist" by his fellow Muslims? Would such a defense even be effective?

He did to save Jews ... What no Israeli did to save Gazans civilians..

He is better than you.

Id appreciate it if you just stick to the actual topic please.

I have cleaned this thread up. How people can make this about PTI is beyond me. Anyone else posting nonsense will be removed

He saw shooters and didnt care about anything else or his own life. You see a Muslim doing the absolute right thing and its irked you. You simply cant handle the truth because he is a Muslim. No one can and will criticise him because he is a hero.
You really need to look in the mirror and frankly be ashamed

First of all, I am not blaming Pakistanis, I am referring to information from a source I either personally know or trust to be more than representative as fact, he could be a white American, and that does not mean I am saying his connection with the US means I am blaming America.

Again, this does not do anything to either Muslims or Australians.

@Waz @Musings

Can you please look at this poster and remove him from this discussion

Did he apply for his Australian passport? Which country he came from as a student?

whoever saves one life—it is as if he had saved all of mankind.” Al Quran This principle contains no religious exceptionalism; it affirms a universal moral truth shared across faiths and humanity. Suggesting that Ahmed al-Ahmed’s actions would have changed had he known the people he was saving were Jews is neither sound nor consistent with this ethic. His act was not political or sectarian—it was a human response to save life, full stop.

SYDNEY: A deadly attack by a father and son on a Jewish Hanukkah celebration at Sydney's Bondi Beach killed 15 people, plunging Australia into a day of mourning Monday.

Here's what we know:

Bondi under attack

Emergency services responded to reports of shots fired at 6:47pm (0747 GMT) Sunday at Bondi Beach, one of the biggest tourist draws in Australia's largest city.

The shooting took place during an annual event to celebrate Hanukkah, which police said was attended by around 1,000 people.

Fatalities

Police say the attackers fired into the crowds, killing 15 people aged from 10 to 87.

The youngest victim, a 10-year-old girl, died later in a children's hospital, whereas 42 people were hospitalised overnight, including five in a critical condition.

Among them are two police officers wounded in a shootout with the gunmen.

Father-son shooters

Police say one of the assailants was a 50-year-old father who was shot and killed in a shootout with officers.

The other was his 24-year-old son, who is in a critical condition in hospital, under police guard.

Australian media named them as Sajid Akram and his son Naveed Akram.

In a statement, police said the pair used "long arms to fire into crowds of people".

The father was licensed to hold six guns, all of which police believe were used in the shooting.

Police do not believe others were involved.

Terrorist incident

The attack was declared a terrorist incident at 9:36pm (1036 GMT) by New South Wales Premier Chris Minns.

As a result, federal and police launched a joint counter-terrorism operation.

World reaction

The attack sparked condemnation worldwide, led by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese who described it as an act of "pure evil".

US President Donald Trump said it was a "purely antisemitic attack".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Australia's government of "pouring oil on the fire of antisemitism" by not acting strongly enough before the shooting.
